아, 슬프다! 나는 여름 과일을 수확한 뒤에 남은 것을 모으는 사람처럼, 포도를 딴 뒤에 지스러기를 모으는 사람처럼 되었건만 먹을 포도송이도 없고 내가 그토록 바랐던 햇무화과도 없구나.

경건한 이는 이 땅에서 사라지고 사람들 가운데 올곧은 이는 하나도 없구나. 모두 남의 피를 흘리려고 숨어 기다리고 저마다 제 형제를 그물로 잡는다.

▶ The faithful are gone from the earth, among men the upright are no more! They all lie in wait to shed blood, each one ensnares the other.

그들의 손은 악을 저지르는 데에 이력이 나 있고 관리와 판관은 뇌물을 달라 하며 권력자는 제가 원하는 것만 지시한다. 이처럼 그들은 모든 것을 그르친다.

그들 가운데 가장 좋다는 자도 가시덤불 같고 올곧다는 자도 가시나무 울타리 같다. 그들의 파수꾼들의 날, 재앙의 날이 다가왔다. 이제 그들에게 혼란이 일어나리라.

▶ The best of them is like a brier, the most upright like a thorn hedge. The day announced by your watchmen! your punishment has come; now is the time of your confusion.

친구를 믿지 말고 벗을 신뢰하지 마라. 네 품에 안겨 잠드는 여자에게도 네 입을 조심하여라.

▶ Put no trust in a friend, have no confidence in a companion; Against her who lies in your bosom guard the portals of your mouth.

아들이 아버지를 경멸하고 딸이 어머니에게, 며느리가 시어머니에게 대든다. 집안 식구가 바로 원수가 된다.

▶ For the son dishonors his father, the daughter rises up against her mother, The daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man's enemies are those of his household.

그러나 나는 주님을 바라보고 내 구원의 하느님을 기다리리라. 내 하느님께서 내 청을 들어 주시리라.

|
내 원수야, 나를 두고 기뻐하지 마라. 나는 넘어져도 다시 일어나고 어둠 속에 앉아 있어도 주님께서 나의 빛이 되어 주신다.

내가 그분께 죄를 지었으니 그분께서 나에게 판결을 내리시고 권리를 찾아 주실 때까지 나는 주님의 분노를 짊어지리라. 그분께서 나를 빛 속으로 이끌어 주시리니 나는 그분의 의로움을 보리라.

▶ The wrath of the LORD I will endure because I have sinned against him, Until he takes up my cause, and establishes my right. He will bring me forth to the light; I will see his justice.

“주 너의 하느님이 어디 계시느냐?” 하고 나에게 말하던 원수는 그것을 보고 수치를 느끼리라. 그리하여 내 눈은 원수의 몰락을 보고 그 원수는 이제 거리의 오물처럼 짓밟히리라.

▶ When my enemy sees this, shame shall cover her: She who said to me, "Where is the LORD, thy God?" My eyes shall see her downfall; now shall she be trampled underfoot, like the mire in the streets.

너의 벽을 쌓는 날 그날에 너의 국경이 넓혀지리라.

▶ It is the day for building your walls; on that day the boundary shall be taken away.

|
그날에 아시리아에서 이집트까지 이집트에서 유프라테스 강까지 이 바다에서 저 바다까지 이 산에서 저 산까지 온갖 곳에서 사람들이 너에게 오리라.

▶ It is the day; and they shall come to you from Assyria and from Egypt, From Tyre even to the River, from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain;

세상은 그 주민들 때문에, 그들의 행동 때문에 황폐하게 되리라.

▶ And the land shall be a waste because of its citizens, as a result of their deeds.

과수원 한가운데 숲 속에 홀로 살아가는 당신 백성을, 당신 소유의 양 떼를 당신의 지팡이로 보살펴 주십시오. 옛날처럼 바산과 길앗에서 그들을 보살펴 주십시오.

▶ Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance, That dwells apart in a woodland, in the midst of Carmel. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old;

당신께서 이집트 땅에서 나오실 때처럼 저희에게 놀라운 일들을 보여 주십시오.

▶ The nations shall behold and be put to shame, in spite of all their strength; They shall put their hands over their mouths; their ears shall become deaf.

그들은 뱀처럼, 땅 위를 기어 다니는 것처럼 먼지를 핥고 저희 요새에서 떨며 주 우리 하느님께로 나오고 무서워하면서 당신을 경외할 것입니다.

▶ They shall lick the dust like the serpent, like reptiles on the ground; They shall come quaking from their fastnesses, trembling in fear of you (the LORD, our God).

당신의 소유인 남은 자들, 그들의 허물을 용서해 주시고 죄를 못 본 체해 주시는 당신 같으신 하느님이 어디 있겠습니까? 그분은 분노를 영원히 품지 않으시고 오히려 기꺼이 자애를 베푸시는 분이시다.

그분께서는 다시 우리를 가엾이 여기시고 우리의 허물들을 모르는 체해 주시리라. 당신께서 저희의 모든 죄악을 바다 깊은 곳으로 던져 주십시오.

▶ And will again have compassion on us, treading underfoot our guilt? You will cast into the depths of the sea all our sins;
