▶ Jesus said to them in reply, "Go and tell John what you hear and see:

▶ As they were going off, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, "What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

▶ Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces.

내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 여자에게서 태어난 이들 가운데 세례자 요한보다 더 큰 인물은 나오지 않았다. 그러나 하늘 나라에서는 가장 작은 이라도 그보다 더 크다.

▶ 'We played the flute for you, but you did not dance, we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.'

사실 요한이 와서 먹지도 않고 마시지도 않자, ‘저자는 마귀가 들렸다.’ 하고 말한다.

▶ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said, 'He is possessed by a demon.'

그런데 사람의 아들이 와서 먹고 마시자, ‘보라, 저자는 먹보요 술꾼이며 세리와 죄인들의 친구다.’ 하고 말한다. 그러나 지혜가 옳다는 것은 그 지혜가 이룬 일로 드러났다.”

▶ Then he began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented.

▶ "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.

▶ But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

그리고 너 카파르나움아, 네가 하늘까지 오를 성싶으냐? 저승까지 떨어질 것이다. 너에게 일어난 기적들이 소돔에서 일어났더라면, 그 고을은 오늘까지 남아 있을 것이다.
