▶ "Tell the Israelites to turn about and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. You shall camp in front of Baal-zephon, just opposite, by the sea.

그러면 파라오는 이스라엘 자손들이 광야에 갇혀 아직도 이 땅에서 헤매고 있다고 생각할 것이다.

▶ Pharaoh will then say, 'The Israelites are wandering about aimlessly in the land. The desert has closed in on them.'

▶ Thus will I make Pharaoh so obstinate that he will pursue them. Then I will receive glory through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD." This the Israelites did.

이스라엘 백성이 도망쳤다는 소식이 이집트 임금에게 전해졌다. 그러자 파라오와 그의 신하들은 이 백성에 대한 마음이 달라져, “우리를 섬기던 이스라엘을 내보내다니, 우리가 무슨 짓을 하였는가?” 하고 말하였다.

▶ When it was reported to the king of Egypt that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants changed their minds about them. "What have we done!" they exclaimed. "Why, we have released Israel from our service!"

▶ So Pharaoh made his chariots ready and mustered his soldiers -

그는 병거 육백 대에 이르는 정예 부대와, 군관이 이끄는 이집트의 모든 병거를 거느리고 나섰다.

|
▶ six hundred first-class chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt, with warriors on them all.

주님께서 이집트 임금 파라오의 마음을 완고하게 하셨으므로, 그는 이스라엘 자손들의 뒤를 쫓았다. 이스라엘 자손들은 당당하게 나아가고 있었다.

▶ So obstinate had the LORD made Pharaoh that he pursued the Israelites even while they were marching away in triumph.

▶ The Egyptians, then, pursued them; Pharaoh's whole army, his horses, chariots and charioteers, caught up with them as they lay encamped by the sea, at Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.

파라오가 다가왔다. 이스라엘 자손들이 눈을 들어 보니, 이집트인들이 그들 뒤로 다가오고 있었다. 이스라엘 자손들은 몹시 두려워하며 주님께 부르짖었다.

▶ Pharaoh was already near when the Israelites looked up and saw that the Egyptians were on the march in pursuit of them. In great fright they cried out to the LORD.

그들은 모세에게 말하였다. “이집트에는 묏자리가 없어 광야에서 죽으라고 우리를 데려왔소? 어쩌자고 우리를 이집트에서 이끌어 내어 이렇게 만드는 것이오?

▶ And they complained to Moses, "Were there no burial places in Egypt that you had to bring us out here to die in the desert? Why did you do this to us? Why did you bring us out of Egypt?

‘우리한테는 이집트인들을 섬기는 것이 광야에서 죽는 것보다 나으니, 이집트인들을 섬기게 우리를 그냥 놔두시오.’ 하면서 우리가 이미 이집트에서 당신에게 말하지 않았소?”

▶ Did we not tell you this in Egypt, when we said, 'Leave us alone. Let us serve the Egyptians'? Far better for us to be the slaves of the Egyptians than to die in the desert."

그러자 모세가 백성에게 대답하였다. “두려워하지들 마라. 똑바로 서서 오늘 주님께서 너희를 위하여 이루실 구원을 보아라. 오늘 너희가 보는 이집트인들을 다시는 영원히 보지 않게 될 것이다.

▶ But Moses answered the people, "Fear not! Stand your ground, and you will see the victory the LORD will win for you today. These Egyptians whom you see today you will never see again.
|

▶ The LORD himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still."

주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 어찌하여 나에게 부르짖느냐? 이스라엘 자손들에게 앞으로 나아가라고 일러라.

▶ Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to go forward.

너는 네 지팡이를 들고 바다 위로 손을 뻗어 바다를 가르고서는, 이스라엘 자손들이 바다 가운데로 마른 땅을 걸어 들어가게 하여라.

|
|
▶ And you, lift up your staff and, with hand outstretched over the sea, split the sea in two, that the Israelites may pass through it on dry land.
|

|
나는 이집트인들의 마음을 완고하게 하여, 너희를 뒤따라 들어가게 하겠다. 그런 다음 나는 파라오와 그의 모든 군대, 그의 병거와 기병들을 쳐서 나의 영광을 드러내겠다.

▶ But I will make the Egyptians so obstinate that they will go in after them. Then I will receive glory through Pharaoh and all his army, his chariots and charioteers.

▶ The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I receive glory through Pharaoh and his chariots and charioteers."

이스라엘 군대 앞에 서서 나아가던 하느님의 천사가 자리를 옮겨 그들 뒤로 갔다. 구름 기둥도 그들 앞에서 자리를 옮겨 그들 뒤로 가 섰다.

▶ The angel of God, who had been leading Israel's camp, now moved and went around behind them. The column of cloud also, leaving the front, took up its place behind them,

그리하여 그것은 이집트 군대와 이스라엘 군대 사이에 자리 잡게 되었다. 그러자 그 구름이 한쪽은 어둡게 하고, 다른 쪽은 밤을 밝혀 주었다. 그래서 밤새도록 아무도 이쪽에서 저쪽으로 다가갈 수 없었다.

▶ so that it came between the camp of the Egyptians and that of Israel. But the cloud now became dark, and thus the night passed without the rival camps coming any closer together all night long.

모세가 바다 위로 손을 뻗었다. 주님께서는 밤새도록 거센 샛바람으로 바닷물을 밀어내시어, 바다를 마른 땅으로 만드셨다. 그리하여 바닷물이 갈라지자,

▶ Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD swept the sea with a strong east wind throughout the night and so turned it into dry land. When the water was thus divided,

이스라엘 자손들이 바다 가운데로 마른 땅을 걸어 들어갔다. 물은 그들 좌우에서 벽이 되어 주었다.

▶ the Israelites marched into the midst of the sea on dry land, with the water like a wall to their right and to their left.

|
뒤이어 이집트인들이 쫓아왔다. 파라오의 모든 말과 병거와 기병들이 그들을 따라 바다 한가운데로 들어갔다.

|
|
|
|
|
▶ The Egyptians followed in pursuit; all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and charioteers went after them right into the midst of the sea.
|

|
새벽녘에 주님께서 불기둥과 구름 기둥에서 이집트 군대를 내려다보시고, 이집트 군대를 혼란에 빠뜨리셨다.

|
▶ In the night watch just before dawn the LORD cast through the column of the fiery cloud upon the Egyptian force a glance that threw it into a panic;
|

그리고 그분께서는 이집트 병거들의 바퀴를 움직이지 못하게 하시어, 병거를 몰기 어렵게 만드셨다. 그러자 이집트인들이 “이스라엘을 피해 달아나자. 주님이 그들을 위해서 이집트와 싸우신다.” 하고 말하였다.

▶ and he so clogged their chariot wheels that they could hardly drive. With that the Egyptians sounded the retreat before Israel, because the LORD was fighting for them against the Egyptians.

주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “바다 위로 손을 뻗어, 이집트인들과 그들의 병거와 기병들 위로 물이 되돌아오게 하여라.”

|
|
▶ Then the LORD told Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may flow back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and their charioteers."
|

|
모세가 바다 위로 손을 뻗었다. 날이 새자 물이 제자리로 되돌아왔다. 그래서 도망치던 이집트인들이 물과 맞닥뜨리게 되었다. 주님께서는 이집트인들을 바다 한가운데로 처넣으셨다.

▶ So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at dawn the sea flowed back to its normal depth. The Egyptians were fleeing head on toward the sea, when the LORD hurled them into its midst.

|
물이 되돌아와서, 이스라엘 자손들을 따라 바다로 들어선 파라오의 모든 군대의 병거와 기병들을 덮쳐 버렸다. 그들 가운데 한 사람도 살아남지 못하였다.

|
|
|
▶ As the water flowed back, it covered the chariots and the charioteers of Pharaoh's whole army which had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not a single one of them escaped.
|
|

|
그러나 이스라엘 자손들은 바다 가운데로 마른땅을 걸어갔다. 물은 그들 좌우에서 벽이 되어 주었다.
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ But the Israelites had marched on dry land through the midst of the sea, with the water like a wall to their right and to their left.
|
|

|
그날 주님께서는 이렇게 이스라엘을 이집트인들의 손에서 구해 주셨고, 이스라엘은 바닷가에 죽어 있는 이집트인들을 보게 되었다.

|
|
▶ Thus the LORD saved Israel on that day from the power of the Egyptians. When Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore

이렇게 이스라엘은 주님께서 이집트인들에게 행사하신 큰 권능을 보았다. 그리하여 백성은 주님을 경외하고, 주님과 그분의 종 모세를 믿게 되었다.

▶ and beheld the great power that the LORD had shown against the Egyptians, they feared the LORD and believed in him and in his servant Moses.
