▶ 사실 인간의 아들들의 운명이나 짐승의 운명이나 매한가지다. 짐승이 죽는 것처럼 인간도 죽으며 모두 같은 목숨을 지녔다. 인간이 짐승보다 나을 것이 하나도 없으니 모든 것이 허무이기 때문이다.

▶ 그래서 나는 사람이 자기 일에 즐거움을 느끼는 것밖에는 좋은 것이 없음을 깨달았다. 이것이 그의 몫이기 때문이다. 죽은 다음에 무엇이 일어나는지 보도록 누가 그를 이끌어 줄 수 있으리오?
