This is the word that came from the LORD to the prophet Jeremiah concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh attacked Gaza:

Thus says the LORD: Behold: waters are rising from the north, a torrent in flood; It shall flood the land and all that is in it, the cities and their people. All the people of the land set up a wailing cry.

▶ 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “북녘에서 물이 불어나 넘쳐흐르는 강물이 되리라. 그 강물이 땅과 그곳을 가득 메운 것을, 성읍과 그 주민들을 휩쓸어 가리라. 그곳 사람들이 울부짖고 그 땅의 모든 주민이 통곡하리라.

They hear the stamping hooves of his steeds, the rattling chariots, the rumbling wheels. Fathers turn not to save their children; their hands fall helpless

▶ 그 군마의 발굽 소리와 병거들이 구르며 내는 요란한 바퀴 소리에 아버지들은 맥이 풀려 자식들을 돌아보지도 못하리라.

Because of the day which has come to ruin all the Philistines, And cut off from Tyre and Sidon the last of their allies. Yes, the LORD is destroying the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.

▶ 필리스티아인들을 모두 멸하고 티로와 시돈의 원군 가운데 살아남은 자들마저 모두 쓸어버릴 그날이 왔기 때문이다.” 정녕 주님께서는 캅토르 섬의 남은 자들인 필리스티아인들을 전멸시키시리라.

Gaza is shaved bald, Ashkelon is reduced to silence; Ashdod, the remnant of their strength, how long will you gash yourself?

▶ 가자는 머리를 밀고 아스클론은 말문이 막힌다. 그 골짜기에서 살아남은 자들아 너희가 언제까지 스스로에게 상처를 내려느냐?

Alas, sword of the LORD! how long till you find rest? Return into your scabbard; stop, be still!

How can it find rest when the LORD has commanded it? Against Ashkelon and the seashore he has appointed it.
