Concerning the Ammonites, thus says the LORD: Has Israel no sons? has he no heir? Why then has Milcom disinherited Gad, why have his people settled in Gad's cities?

▶ 암몬 자손들에 대하여. 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “이스라엘은 자식도 없고 상속자도 없느냐? 어찌하여 밀콤 신이 가드를 차지하고 그의 백성이 가드의 여러 성읍에서 사는가?

But the days are coming, says the LORD, when against Rabbah of the Ammonites I will sound the battle alarm; She shall become a mound of ruins, and her daughter cities shall be destroyed by fire. Israel shall inherit those who disinherited her, says the LORD.

Howl, Heshbon, for the ravager approaches, shriek, daughters of Rabbah! Put on sackcloth and mourn, run to and fro, gashing yourselves; For Milcom goes into exile along with his priests and captains.

▶ 아이 성이 부서졌으니, 헤스본아, 통곡하여라. 라빠의 마을들아, 울부짖어라. 자루옷을 두르고 애곡하며 몸에 상처를 내고 돌아다녀라. 밀콤 신이 그의 사제들과 대신들과 더불어 포로로 끌려갈 것이다.

Why do you glory in your strength, your ebbing strength, rebellious daughter? You who trust in your treasures, saying, "Who can come against me?"

▶ 배반한 딸아 어찌하여 너의 골짜기를 두고 자랑하느냐? 네 골짜기는 이제 스러지고 있지 않느냐? 암몬은 자기 보물을 의지하고 ‘누가 나를 치러 오겠느냐?’ 하고 말한다.

I am bringing terror upon you, says the Lord GOD of hosts, from all round about you; You shall be scattered, each man in headlong flight, with no one to rally the fugitives.

But afterward I will change the lot of the Ammonites, says the LORD.

Concerning Edom, thus says the LORD of hosts: Is there no more wisdom in Teman, has counsel perished from the prudent, has their wisdom become corrupt?

Flee, retreat, hide in deep holes, you who live in Dedan: For I will bring destruction upon Esau when I come to punish him.

▶ 드단 주민들아 등을 돌려 달아나 깊이 숨어라. 내가 그에게 에사우의 환난을, 그를 징벌할 때를 가져올 것이다.

If vintagers came upon you, they would leave no gleanings; If thieves by night, they would destroy as they pleased.

▶ 포도를 따는 사람들이 너에게 오면 지스러기도 남기지 않는다. 도둑들이 밤에 들어오면 자기네가 원하는 대로 털어 간다.

So I myself will strip Esau; I will uncover his retreats so that he cannot hide. He is ruined: sons, and brothers, and neighbors, so that he is no more.

▶ 나도 에사우를 발가벗기고 그의 피신처들을 들추어내니 그는 더 이상 몸을 숨길 수 없다. 그의 후손과 형제들과 이웃들이 몰락하고 자신마저 살아남지 못한다.

Leave your orphans behind, I will keep them alive; your widows, let them trust in me.

By my own self I have sworn, says the LORD: Bozrah shall become an object of horror and a disgrace, a desolation and a curse; she and all her cities shall become ruins forever.

I have heard a report from the LORD, a herald has been sent among the nations: Gather together, move against her, rise up for battle.

The terror you spread beguiled you, and your presumption of heart; You that live in rocky crags, that hold the heights of the hill: Though you build your nest high as the eagle, from there I will drag you down, says the LORD.

Edom shall become an object of horror. Every passer-by shall be appalled and catch his breath at all her wounds.

As when Sodom, Gomorrah, and their neighbors were overthrown, says the LORD, not a man shall dwell there: no one shall visit there.

▶ 소돔과 고모라와 그 이웃 성읍들이 멸망했을 때처럼, ─ 주님께서 말씀하신다. ─ 아무도 거기에 살지 않고 그곳에 머무는 사람도 없을 것이다.

As when a lion comes up from the thicket of Jordan to the permanent feeding grounds, So I, in an instant, will drive men off; and whom I choose I will establish there! For who is like me? who can call me to account? What shepherd can stand against me?

▶ 사자가 요르단의 깊은 숲 속에서 뛰쳐나와 늘 푸른 목장으로 달려들 듯 나도 순식간에 그곳에서 그들을 몰아내고 누구든 내가 뽑은 자를 그곳에 세우리라. 과연 나와 같은 자가 누구며 누가 나를 불러낼 수 있는가? 어떤 목자가 내 앞에 나설 수 있는가?

Therefore, hear the counsel of the LORD, which he has taken against Edom; Hear the plans he has made against those that live in Teman: They shall be dragged away, even the smallest sheep, their own pasture shall be aghast because of them.

▶ 그러므로 주님께서 에돔을 치려고 세우신 결의와 테만 주민들을 치려고 짜 놓으신 계획을 들어 보아라. 양 떼의 어린것들이 그들을 반드시 끌어내고 이들 때문에 그들의 목장이 깜짝 놀라리라.

At the noise of their fall the earth quakes, to the Red Sea the outcry is heard!

Damascus is weakened, she turns to flee, panic has seized her. Distress and pangs take hold of her, like those of a woman in travail.
