who encourages us in our every affliction, so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any affliction with the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God.

For as Christ's sufferings overflow to us, so through Christ does our encouragement also overflow.

If we are afflicted, it is for your encouragement and salvation; if we are encouraged, it is for your encouragement, which enables you to endure the same sufferings that we suffer.

▶ 우리가 환난을 겪는 것도 여러분이 위로와 구원을 받게 하려는 것이고, 우리가 위로를 받는 것도 여러분이 위로를 받게 하려는 것입니다. 이 위로는 우리가 겪는 것과 똑같은 고난을 여러분도 견디어 나아갈 때에 그 힘을 드러냅니다.

Our hope for you is firm, for we know that as you share in the sufferings, you also share in the encouragement

We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction that came to us in the province of Asia; we were utterly weighed down beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life.

Indeed, we had accepted within ourselves the sentence of death, that we might trust not in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.

He rescued us from such great danger of death, and he will continue to rescue us; in him we have put our hope (that) he will also rescue us again,

▶ 그분께서는 과연 그 큰 죽음의 위험에서 우리를 구해 주셨고 앞으로도 구해 주실 것입니다. 이렇게 우리는 하느님께서 또다시 구해 주시리라고 희망합니다.

as you help us with prayer, so that thanks may be given by many on our behalf for the gift granted us through the prayers of many.

For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, with the simplicity and sincerity of God, (and) not by human wisdom but by the grace of God.

▶ 우리의 양심도 증언하듯이 우리가 자랑하는 바는 이렇습니다. 곧 우리가 이 세상에서, 특히 여러분을 상대로 처신할 때, 하느님께서 주신 순수함과 성실함에 따라, 또 나약한 인간의 지혜가 아니라 하느님의 은총에 따라 처신하였다는 것입니다.

For we write you nothing but what you can read and understand, and I hope that you will understand completely,

▶ 우리는 지금 여러분이 읽고 알아들을 수 있는 것만 씁니다. 그리고 나는 장차 여러분이 온전히 알아듣게 되기를 바랍니다.

as you have come to understand us partially, that we are your boast as you also are ours, on the day of (our) Lord Jesus.

With this confidence I formerly intended to come to you so that you might receive a double favor,

namely, to go by way of you to Macedonia, and then to come to you again on my return from Macedonia, and have you send me on my way to Judea.

So when I intended this, did I act lightly? Or do I make my plans according to human considerations, so that with me it is "yes, yes" and "no, no"?

As God is faithful, our word to you is not "yes" and "no."

|
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed to you by us, Silvanus and Timothy and me, was not "yes" and "no," but "yes" has been in him.

▶ 우리 곧 나와 실바누스와 티모테오가 여러분에게 선포한 하느님의 아드님 예수 그리스도께서는 “예!”도 되시면서 “아니요!”도 되시는 분이 아니셨기 때문입니다. 그분께는 늘 “예!”만 있을 따름입니다.

For however many are the promises of God, their Yes is in him; therefore, the Amen from us also goes through him to God for glory.

But I call upon God as witness, on my life, that it is to spare you that I have not yet gone to Corinth.

Not that we lord it over your faith; rather, we work together for your joy, for you stand firm in the faith.
