The Second Prophecy against Babylon
|

|
|
1
|
Thus says the LORD: See! I rouse against Babylon, and against those who live in Chaldea, a destroying wind.
|

▶ 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “이제 내가 바빌론과 렙 카마이 주민들을 향하여 파괴하는 바람을 일으킨다.

|

|
Against Babylon I will send winnowers to winnow her and lay waste her land; They shall besiege her from all sides on the day of affliction.

|
|
|
|
▶ 내가 바빌론에 키질하는 자들을 보내어 그를 키질하고 그 땅을 말끔히 비우리라. 과연 재앙의 날에 그들이 사방에서 바빌론을 공격하리라.
|
|

|
Let the bowman draw his bow, and flaunt his coat of mail; Spare not her young men, doom her entire army.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 바빌론의 활잡이가 시위를 당기지 못하게 하고 갑옷을 입고 일어서지 못하게 하여라. 바빌론의 젊은이들을 불쌍히 여기지 말고 그 군대를 모두 없애 버려라.

The slain shall fall in the land of Chaldea, the transfixed, in her streets;

|
|
|
|
▶ 그들은 칼데아 땅에서 칼에 맞아 쓰러지고 그 거리에서 중상을 입으리라.”

|

|
For Israel and Judah are not widowed of their God, the LORD of hosts, And the Chaldean land is full of guilt to be punished by the Holy One of Israel.

▶ 이스라엘과 유다 땅이 비록 이스라엘의 거룩하신 분을 거스른 죄로 가득 차 있다 하더라도 그들이 만군의 주 자신들의 하느님께 소박맞은 것은 아니다.

Flee out of Babylon; let each one save his life, perish not for her guilt; This is a time of vengeance for the LORD, he pays her her due.

|
|
|
▶ 너희는 바빌론 한복판에서 도망쳐 저마다 제 목숨을 구하여라. 바빌론의 죄 때문에 함께 죽지 마라. 지금은 주님께서 복수하시는 때 그분께서 바빌론의 행실을 되갚으시리라.

|
Babylon was a golden cup in the hand of the LORD which made the whole earth drunk; The nations drank its wine, with this they have become mad.

|
|
▶ 바빌론은 주님의 손에 들린 금잔, 온 세상을 취하게 하였다. 민족들이 거기 담긴 포도주를 마셨기에 미쳐 버렸다.

|
Babylon suddenly falls and is crushed: howl over her! Bring balm for her wounds, in case she can be healed.

|
|
|
▶ 바빌론이 갑자기 쓰러지고 무너졌다. 그를 두고 통곡하여라. 그의 상처에 유향을 발라 보아라. 어쩌다 나을지도 모른다.

"We have tried to heal Babylon, but she cannot be healed. Leave her, let us go, each to his own land." Her judgment reaches heaven, it touches the clouds.

|
▶ 우리가 바빌론을 낫게 하려 했으나 낫지 않았다. 그러니 그를 버리고 저마다 제 고향으로 돌아가자. 그에 대한 심판이 하늘까지 이르고 구름까지 닿았다.

The LORD has brought to light our just cause; come, let us tell in Zion what the LORD, our God, has done.
|

|
▶ 주님께서 우리의 구원을 드러내셨으니 어서 와 시온에서 주 우리 하느님의 위업을 선포하자.

|
Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers; The LORD has stirred up the spirit of Media's kings; Babylon he is resolved to destroy. Yes, it is the vengeance of the LORD, vengeance for his temple.

|
▶ 화살촉을 갈고 방패를 잡아라. 주님께서는 바빌론을 파괴할 계획을 세우셨기에, 메디아 임금들의 마음을 깨우셨다. 이것이 정녕 주님의 복수, 당신 성전을 위한 복수다.

Against the walls of Babylon raise a signal, make strong the watch; Post sentries, arrange ambushes! For the LORD has planned and he will carry out his threat against the inhabitants of Babylon.

▶ 바빌론 성벽을 향해 깃발을 세우고 경비를 튼튼히 하여라. 보초를 세우고 매복을 준비시켜라. 주님께서는 바빌론 주민들을 두고 말씀하신 바를 그대로 계획하시고 함께 실행하신다.

You who dwell by mighty waters, rich in treasure, Your end has come, the term at which you shall be cut off!

▶ 큰 물 가에 살며 보화를 많이 가진 자야 너의 종말이 다가오고 네가 잘려 나갈 때가 되었다.

The LORD of hosts has sworn by himself: I will fill you with men as numerous as locusts, who shall raise over you the vintage shout!

|
|
▶ 만군의 주님께서 당신 자신을 두고 맹세하셨다. “내가 정녕 네 땅을 메뚜기 떼처럼 많은 군인들로 채우리라. 그러면 그들이 너를 이기고 승리의 함성을 지르리라.”

|
He has sworn who made the earth by his power, and established the world by his wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by his skill.

▶ 그분께서는 당신 능력으로 땅을 만드시고 당신 지혜로 세상을 세우셨으며 당신 예지로 하늘을 펼쳐 놓으셨다.

|
When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar, and he brings up clouds from the end of the earth; He makes the lightning flash in the rain, and releases stormwinds from their chambers.

|
|
▶ 그분께서 소리를 내시자 하늘의 물이 요동친다. 그분께서는 땅 끝에서 안개가 피어오르게 하신다. 비가 내리도록 번개를 만드시고 당신의 곳간에서 바람을 꺼내신다.

Every man is stupid, ignorant; every artisan is put to shame by his idol: He molded a fraud, without breath of life.

|
|
|
|
▶ 사람은 누구나 어리석고 지식이 모자란다. 대장장이는 누구나 우상 탓에 수치를 당한다. 사실 그가 부어 만든 상은 가짜라서 그 안에 숨결이 없다.

Nothingness are they, a ridiculous work, that will perish in their time of punishment.

|
|
|
▶ 그것들은 헛것이요 조롱거리니 그들이 벌을 받을 때에 그것들도 사라지리라.

|
Not like these is the portion of Jacob, he is the creator of all things; Israel is his very own tribe, LORD of hosts is his name.

|
|
▶ 야곱의 몫은 이런 것들과는 다르다. 그분은 만물을 지으신 분이시고 이스라엘은 그분께서 상속 재산으로 삼으신 족속이기 때문이다. 그 이름 만군의 주님이시다.

You are my hammer, my weapon for war; With you I shatter nations, with you I destroy kingdoms.

|
|
▶ 너는 나의 망치요 나의 무기다. 나는 너를 통하여 민족들을 부수고 너를 통하여 나라들을 파괴하였다.

With you I shatter horse and rider, with you I shatter chariot and driver.
|

▶ 나는 너를 통하여 말과 기병을 부수고 너를 통하여 병거와 병거 부대를 부수었다.

With you I shatter man and wife, with you I shatter old and young, with you I shatter the youth and maiden.

|
With you I shatter the shepherd and his flock, with you I shatter the farmer and his team, with you I shatter satraps and prefects.

Thus will I repay Babylon, and all who live in Chaldea All the evil they did to Zion, as you shall see with your own eyes, says the LORD.

▶ 그러나 이제는 내가 바빌론과 칼데아의 모든 주민에게 갚으리라. 그것은 너희가 지켜보는 가운데 그들이 시온에서 저지른 온갖 악에 대한 복수다. 주님의 말씀이다.

Beware! I am against you, destroying mountain, destroyer of the entire earth, says the LORD; I will stretch forth my hand against you, roll you down over the cliffs, and make you a burnt mountain:

▶ 온 세상을 무너뜨리는 파괴자 산아 내가 너에게 맞서리라. 주님의 말씀이다. 내 팔을 네 위에 펼쳐 너를 바위에서 굴려 내리고 너를 불에 탄 산으로 만들리라.

|
They will not take from you a cornerstone, or a foundation stone; Ruins forever shall you be, says the LORD.
|

|
|
|
▶ 사람들이 너에게서 모퉁잇돌 하나, 주춧돌 하나 얻지 못하리니 네가 영원히 폐허가 될 것이기 때문이다. 주님의 말씀이다.

|
Raise a signal on the earth, blow the trumpet among the nations; Dedicate peoples to war against her, summon against her the kingdoms, Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; Appoint recruiting officers against her, send up horses like bristling locusts.

|
▶ 그 땅에 깃발을 세우고 민족들 가운데에서 나팔을 불어라. 바빌론을 칠 민족들을 동원하고 그를 칠 왕국들 곧 아라랏과 민니와 아스크나즈를 불러들여라. 그를 칠 사령관을 임명하고 날개를 곤두세운 메뚜기 떼 같은 군마를 몰고 와라.

Dedicate peoples to war against her: the king of Media, Its governors and all its prefects, every land in his domain.

|
|
|
|
▶ 그를 칠 민족들을 동원하고 메디아 임금들과 그 총독들과 지방 장관들 또 그들이 지배하는 모든 속국을 동원하여라.
|
|

|
The earth quakes and writhes, the LORD'S plan against Babylon is carried out, Turning the land of Babylon into a desert where no one lives.

|
|
|
|
▶ 땅이 흔들리고 뒤틀리니 바빌론을 치려는 주님의 계획이 이루어졌기 때문이다. 그 계획이란 바빌론 땅을 인적 없는 폐허로 만드는 것이다.

|
Babylon's warriors have ceased to fight, they remain in their strongholds; Dried up is their strength, they have become women. Burned are their homes, and broken their bars.

|
|
▶ 바빌론 용사들이 전투를 포기하고 요새에 들어앉았다. 그들은 기력을 잃고 여자처럼 되어 버렸으며 바빌론 집들은 불타고 성문의 빗장들도 부서졌다.

One runner meets another, herald meets herald, Telling the king of Babylon that all his city is taken.
|

|
|
▶ 한 보발꾼이 다른 보발꾼을 만나 이어 달리고 한 전령이 다른 전령을 만나 바빌론 임금에게 그의 도성이 끝에서 끝까지 점령되었다고 보고한다.

The fords have been seized, and the fortresses set on fire, while warriors are in panic.

For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Daughter Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trodden; Yet a little while, and the harvest time will come for her.
|

▶ 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “딸 바빌론이 타작마당처럼 짓밟힐 때가 온다. 이제 곧 바빌론에 수확 때가 닥친다.”

He has consumed me, routed me, (Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon,) he has left me as an empty vessel; He has swallowed me like a dragon: filled his belly with my delights, and cast me out.

My torn flesh be upon Babylon, says the city on Zion; My blood upon the people of Chaldea, says Jerusalem.

|
|
▶ 시온 주민들이 이렇게 호소하리라. “내가 당한 폭행과 파괴를 바빌론에게 되갚아 주소서.” 예루살렘이 이렇게 호소하리라. “내가 흘린 피를 칼데아 주민들에게 되갚아 주소서.”

|
But now, thus says the LORD: Surely I will defend your cause, I will avenge you; I will dry up her sea, and drain her fountain.
|

▶ 그러므로 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “이제 내가 너의 송사를 들어주어 너의 원수를 갚아 주리라. 내가 바빌론의 바다를 말리고 그 샘을 말려 버리리라.

Babylon shall become a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals; A place of horror and ridicule, where no one lives.
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 바빌론은 폐허 더미가 되고 승냥이의 소굴이 되리라. 그곳은 인적 없는 곳이 되고 놀람 거리와 놀림감이 되리라.”

|
They all roar like lions, growl like lion cubs.
|

|
|
|
▶ 그들은 모두 사자들처럼 으르렁대고 새끼 사자들처럼 울부짖으리라.

|
When they are parched, I will set a drink before them to make them drunk, that they may be overcome with perpetual sleep, never to awaken, says the LORD.

▶ 그들이 더위에 지쳤을 때 내가 술상을 차려 그들이 기절할 때까지 취하게 하리라. 그러면 그들은 영원한 잠에 빠져 들어 다시는 깨어나지 못하리라. 주님의 말씀이다.

|
I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams and goats.

How has she been seized, made captive, the glory of the whole world! What a horror has Babylon become among nations:

|
|
▶ 어쩌다가 온 세상의 자랑거리던 세삭이 점령되고 점거되었는가? 어쩌다가 민족들 가운데에서 바빌론이 놀람 거리가 되었는가?

|
against Babylon the sea rises, she is overwhelmed by the roaring waves!

|
|
▶ 바닷물이 바빌론으로 밀려오자 그곳은 그 요란한 파도에 잠기고 말았다.
|
|

|
Her cities have become a desert, parched and arid land Where no man lives, and no one passes through.
|

|
▶ 그 성읍들은 폐허가 되고 메마른 땅과 사막이 되었다. 그곳은 인간이 살지 않는 땅, 그곳을 지나는 사람은 아무도 없다.

|
I will punish Bel in Babylon, and make him disgorge what he swallowed; peoples shall stream to him no more. The wall of Babylon falls!

|
▶ 내가 바빌론에서 벨 신을 징벌하여 그가 삼킨 것을 입에서 끄집어내리라. 민족들이 이제 더 이상 그에게 몰려들지 않으리라. 바빌론의 성벽도 쓰러진다.

Leave her, my people, let each one save himself from the burning wrath of the LORD.

▶ 내 백성아, 바빌론에서 나와라. 저마다 주님의 타오르는 분노에서 제 목숨을 구하여라.

|
Be not discouraged for fear of rumors spread in the land; this year the rumor comes, then violence in the land, tyrant against tyrant.
|

|
|
|
▶ 너희는 그 땅에서 들려오는 소문에 낙심하거나 두려워하지 마라. 이 해는 이런 소문이, 저 해는 저런 소문이 계속 들려오기 마련이다. 그 땅에는 폭력이 판을 치고 통치자들끼리 서로 싸운다.

|
But behold, the days are coming when I will punish the idols of Babylon; her whole land shall be put to shame, and all her slain shall lie fallen within her.

|
|
|
▶ 그러므로 이제 내가 바빌론의 신상들을 징벌할 날이 온다. 그곳 온 땅이 수치를 당하고 칼 맞은 자들이 모두 그 한가운데에서 쓰러져 죽으리라.

Then heaven, and earth, and everything in them shall shout over Babylon with joy, when the destroyers come against her from the north, says the LORD.

|
▶ 하늘과 땅이, 그 안에 있는 모든 것이 바빌론을 두고 기뻐 소리치리라. 북녘에서 그를 쳐부술 자들이 내려오기 때문이다. 주님의 말씀이다.

Babylon, too, must fall, O slain of Israel, as at the hands of Babylon have fallen the slain of all the earth.

▶ 온 세상에서 살해된 자들이 바빌론 때문에 쓰러졌듯이 이제는 바빌론도 이스라엘에서 살해된 자들 때문에 쓰러져야 한다.

You who have escaped the sword, go on, stand not still; Remember the LORD from afar, let Jerusalem come to your minds.

|
▶ 칼을 피한 자들아 서 있지 말고 어서 떠나라. 멀리서라도 주님을 기억하고 예루살렘을 마음속에 떠올려라.

We are ashamed because we have heard taunts, confusion covers our faces; strangers have entered the holy places of the house of the LORD.

▶ “우리는 욕설을 듣고 수치를 당하였습니다. 부끄러움이 우리 얼굴을 가렸습니다. 이방인들이 주님 집의 거룩한 곳들에 쳐들어온 까닭입니다.”

But behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will punish her idols, and in her whole land the wounded will groan.

▶ 그러므로 이제 그날이 온다. 주님의 말씀이다. 그날 내가 바빌론의 신상들을 징벌하리니 그 땅 모든 곳에서 중상을 입은 자들이 신음하리라.

Though Babylon scale the heavens, and make her strong heights inaccessible, destroyers from me shall reach her, says the LORD.
|

|
▶ 바빌론이 비록 하늘까지 올라간다 할지라도 그 기세를 드높인다 할지라도 내가 파괴자들을 보내어 그를 치리라. 주님의 말씀이다.

Hear! loud cries from Babylon, dire destruction from the land of the Chaldeans;

▶ 바빌론에서 울부짖는 소리가 들리고 칼데아인들의 땅에서 큰 참사가 일어난다.

|
For the LORD lays Babylon waste, stills her loud cry, Though her waves were roaring like mighty waters, and their clamor was heard afar.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 주님께서 정녕 바빌론을 파괴하시고 그곳에서 큰 목소리가 사라지게 하신다. 파괴자들이 밀려드는 모습은 큰 물결 같고 그들의 목소리는 요란하다.

|
For the destroyer comes upon her, (Babylon,) her heroes are captured, their bows broken; The LORD is a God who requites, he will surely repay.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 과연 파괴자가 바빌론에 쳐들어오자 그 용사들이 사로잡히고 그들의 활이 부러진다. 주님께서 응보의 하느님이시며 반드시 갚으시기 때문이다.

I will make her princes and her wise men drunk, her governors, her prefects, and her warriors, so that they sleep an eternal sleep, never to awaken, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

▶ 내가 바빌론의 대신들과 현자들, 총독들과 지방 장관들과 용사들을 취하게 하면, 그들은 영원한 잠에 빠져 들어 다시는 깨어나지 못할 것이다. 그 이름 만군의 주님이신 임금님의 말씀이다.

Thus says the LORD of hosts: The walls of spacious Babylon shall be leveled utterly; her lofty gates shall be destroyed by fire. The toil of the nations is for nothing; for the flames the peoples weary themselves.

This was the errand given by the prophet Jeremiah to Seraiah, son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon for the king in the fourth year of the reign of Zedekiah; Seraiah was chief quartermaster.

Jeremiah had written all the misfortune that was to befall Babylon in a single book: all these words that were written against Babylon.

And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: When you reach Babylon, see that you read aloud all these words,

▶ 예레미야가 스라야에게 말하였다. “그대가 바빌론으로 들어가면, 이 말씀을 다 읽고 나서,

and then say: O LORD, you yourself threatened to destroy this place, so that neither man nor beast should dwell in it, since it would remain an everlasting desert.

▶ 이렇게 아뢰시오. ‘주님, 당신께서 이곳을 두고 친히 말씀하시기를, 이곳을 멸망시켜 사람도 짐승도 살지 않는, 영원한 폐허가 되게 하리라고 하셨습니다.’

When you have finished reading this book, tie a stone to it and throw it in the Euphrates,

▶ 그리고 그대는 이 책을 다 읽고 나서, 그것에 돌을 매달아 유프라테스 강 한복판에 던지시오.

and say: Thus shall Babylon sink. Never shall she rise, because of the evil I am bringing upon her. (To "weary themselves" are the words of Jeremiah.)

▶ 그러고 나서 이렇게 말하시오. ‘바빌론도 내가 그에게 내릴 재앙 탓에, 이처럼 가라앉아 다시는 떠오르지 않을 것이다. 그들이 지쳐 버릴 것이다.’” 여기까지가 예레미야의 말이다.
