Then he brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water flowing out from beneath the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the facade of the temple was toward the east; the water flowed down from the southern side of the temple, south of the altar.

▶ 그가 다시 나를 데리고 주님의 집 어귀로 돌아갔다. 이 주님의 집 정면은 동쪽으로 나 있었는데, 주님의 집 문지방 밑에서 물이 솟아 동쪽으로 흐르고 있었다. 그 물은 주님의 집 오른쪽 밑에서, 제단 남쪽으로 흘러내려 갔다.

He led me outside by the north gate, and around to the outer gate facing the east, where I saw water trickling from the southern side.

▶ 그는 또 나를 데리고 북쪽 대문으로 나가서, 밖을 돌아 동쪽 대문 밖으로 데려갔다. 거기에서 보니 물이 오른쪽에서 나오고 있었다.

Then when he had walked off to the east with a measuring cord in his hand, he measured off a thousand cubits and had me wade through the water, which was ankle-deep.

▶ 그 사람이 동쪽으로 나가는데, 그의 손에는 줄자가 들려 있었다. 그가 천 암마를 재고서는 나에게 물을 건너게 하였는데, 물이 발목까지 찼다.

He measured off another thousand and once more had me wade through the water, which was now knee-deep. Again he measured off a thousand and had me wade; the water was up to my waist.

Once more he measured off a thousand, but there was now a river through which I could not wade; for the water had risen so high it had become a river that could not be crossed except by swimming.

▶ 그가 또 천 암마를 재었는데, 그곳은 건널 수 없는 강이 되어 있었다. 물이 불어서, 헤엄을 치기 전에는 건널 수 없었다.

He asked me, "Have you seen this, son of man?" Then he brought me to the bank of the river, where he had me sit.

Along the bank of the river I saw very many trees on both sides.

He said to me, "This water flows into the eastern district down upon the Arabah, and empties into the sea, the salt waters, which it makes fresh.

▶ 그가 나에게 말하였다. “이 물은 동쪽 지역으로 나가, 아라바로 내려가서 바다로 들어간다. 이 물이 바다로 흘러들어 가면, 그 바닷물이 되살아난다.

Wherever the river flows, every sort of living creature that can multiply shall live, and there shall be abundant fish, for wherever this water comes the sea shall be made fresh.

▶ 그래서 이 강이 흘러가는 곳마다 온갖 생물이 우글거리며 살아난다. 이 물이 닿는 곳마다 바닷물이 되살아나기 때문에, 고기도 아주 많이 생겨난다. 이렇게 이 강이 닿는 곳마다 모든 것이 살아난다.

Fishermen shall be standing along it from En-gedi to En-eglaim, spreading their nets there. Its kinds of fish shall be like those of the Great Sea, very numerous.

▶ 그러면 물가에는 어부들이 늘어서고, 엔 게디에서 엔 에글라임까지는 그물을 펴서 말리는 곳이 될 것이다. 그곳의 물고기 종류도 큰 바다의 물고기처럼 매우 많아질 것이다.

Only its marshes and swamps shall not be made fresh; they shall be left for salt.

▶ 그러나 늪과 웅덩이 물은 되살아나지 않은 채, 소금을 얻을 수 있도록 남아 있을 것이다.

|
Along both banks of the river, fruit trees of every kind shall grow; their leaves shall not fade, nor their fruit fail. Every month they shall bear fresh fruit, for they shall be watered by the flow from the sanctuary. Their fruit shall serve for food, and their leaves for medicine."

▶ 이 강가 이쪽저쪽에는 온갖 과일나무가 자라는데, 잎도 시들지 않으며 과일도 끊이지 않고 다달이 새 과일을 내놓는다. 이 물이 성전에서 나오기 때문이다. 그 과일은 양식이 되고 잎은 약이 된다.”

Thus says the Lord GOD: These are the boundaries within which you shall apportion the land among the twelve tribes of Israel (Joseph having two portions).

All of you shall have a like portion in this land which I swore to give to your fathers, that it might fall to you as your inheritance.

Thus the border shall extend from the sea to Hazar-enon, with the frontier of Hamath and Damascus to the north. This is the northern boundary.

The eastern boundary: between the Hauran - toward Damascus - and Gilead on the one side, and the land of Israel on the other side, the Jordan shall form the boundary down to the eastern sea as far as Tamar. This is the eastern boundary.

The southern boundary: from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, thence to the Wadi of Egypt, and on to the Great Sea. This is the southern boundary.

The western boundary: the Great Sea forms the boundary up to a point parallel to Labo of Hamath. This is the western boundary.

You shall distribute this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel.

You shall allot it as inheritances for yourselves and for the aliens resident in your midst who have bred children among you. The latter shall be to you like native Israelites; along with you they shall receive inheritances among the tribes of Israel.

The Northern Portions

In whatever tribe the alien may be resident, there you shall assign him his inheritance, says the Lord GOD.
