We ask you, brothers, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling with him,

▶ 형제 여러분, 우리는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 재림과 우리가 그분께 모이게 될 일로 여러분에게 당부합니다.

not to be shaken out of your minds suddenly, or to be alarmed either by a "spirit," or by an oral statement, or by a letter allegedly from us to the effect that the day of the Lord is at hand.

|
▶ 누가 예언이나 설교로 또 우리가 보냈다는 편지를 가지고 주님의 날이 이미 왔다고 말하더라도, 쉽사리 마음이 흔들리거나 불안해하지 마십시오.

Let no one deceive you in any way. For unless the apostasy comes first and the lawless one is revealed, the one doomed to perdition,

who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship, so as to seat himself in the temple of God, claiming that he is a god -

|
|
▶ 신이라고 일컬어지는 모든 것과 예배의 대상이 되는 것들에 맞서 자신을 그보다 더 높이 들어 올립니다. 그리하여 신으로 자처하며 하느님의 성전에 자리 잡고 앉습니다.

do you not recall that while I was still with you I told you these things?

▶ 내가 여러분 곁에 있을 때 이 일에 관하여 이야기한 것을 여러분도 기억하고 있지 않습니까?

And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his time.

▶ 그리고 여러분도 알다시피, 지금은 어떤 것이 그자를 저지하고 있지만, 그자는 자기 때가 되면 나타날 것입니다.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. But the one who restrains is to do so only for the present, until he is removed from the scene.

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord (Jesus) will kill with the breath of his mouth and render powerless by the manifestation of his coming,

▶ 그러면 그 무법자가 나타날 터이지만, 주 예수님께서는 당신의 입김으로 그자를 멸하시고 당신 재림의 광채로 그자를 없애 버리실 것입니다.

the one whose coming springs from the power of Satan in every mighty deed and in signs and wonders that lie,

▶ 그 무법자가 오는 것은 사탄의 작용으로, 그는 온갖 힘을 가지고 거짓 표징과 이적을 일으키며,

and in every wicked deceit for those who are perishing because they have not accepted the love of truth so that they may be saved.

▶ 멸망할 자들을 상대로 온갖 불의한 속임수를 쓸 것입니다. 그들이 진리를 사랑하여 구원받는 것을 거부하였기 때문입니다.

Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may believe the lie,

▶ 그러므로 하느님께서는 그들에게 사람을 속이는 힘을 보내시어 거짓을 믿게 하십니다.

|
that all who have not believed the truth but have approved wrongdoing may be condemned.
|

|
▶ 진리를 믿지 않고 불의를 좋아한 자들이 모두 심판을 받게 하시려는 것입니다.
|
|

|
But we ought to give thanks to God for you always, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in truth.

▶ 주님께 사랑받는 형제 여러분, 우리는 여러분 때문에 늘 하느님께 감사를 드리지 않을 수 없습니다. 하느님께서 여러분을 성령으로 거룩하게 하시고 진리를 믿게 하여 구원하시려고, 여러분을 첫 열매로 선택하여 주셨기 때문입니다.

To this end he has (also) called you through our gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

▶ 이렇게 되라고 하느님께서는 우리의 복음을 통하여 여러분을 부르셨습니다. 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 영광을 차지하게 하시려는 것입니다.

Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours.

▶ 그러므로 이제 형제 여러분, 굳건히 서서 우리의 말이나 편지로 배운 전통을 굳게 지키십시오.

|
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace,

encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.
