▶ Then the three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

▶ But the anger of Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled. He was angry with Job for considering himself rather than God to be in the right.

그는 세 친구에게도 화를 내었다. 그들이 대답할 말도 찾지 못하면서 욥을 단죄하였기 때문이다.

▶ He was angry also with the three friends because they had not found a good answer and had not condemned Job.
|

그러나 엘리후는 그들이 자기보다 나이가 많기 때문에, 욥에게 말할 기회를 기다렸다.

▶ But since these men were older than he, Elihu bided his time before addressing Job.
|

▶ When, however, Elihu saw that there was no reply in the mouths of the three men, his wrath was inflamed.

그리하여 부즈 사람 바라크엘의 아들 엘리후가 말을 하기 시작하였다. 저는 나이가 어리고 여러분은 연로하십니다. 그래서 제 소견을 여쭙기가 두렵고 무서웠습니다.

▶ So Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, spoke out and said: I am young and you are very old; therefore I held back and was afraid to declare to you my knowledge.

저는 ‘나이가 말을 하고 연륜이 지혜를 가르쳐야지.’ 생각하였습니다.

▶ Days should speak, I thought, and many years teach wisdom!

그렇지만 사람 안에 있는 영이, 전능하신 분의 입김이 사람을 깨우치는 것이더군요.

▶ But it is a spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.
|

연만하다고 지혜로운 게 아니요 연로하다고 올바른 것을 깨닫는 게 아니랍니다.

|
▶ It is not those of many days who are wise, nor the aged who understand the right.
|

그래서 제가 말씀드리니 들어 보십시오. 저도 제 소견을 여쭙겠습니다.

▶ Therefore I say, hearken to me; let me too set forth my knowledge!

▶ Behold, I have waited for your discourses, and have given ear to your arguments.

▶ Yes, I followed you attentively as you searched out what to say; And behold, there is none who has convicted Job, not one of you who could refute his statements.

“우리는 지혜를 발견했어. 사람이 아니라 하느님께서 그를 물리치셔야지.” 하고 말하지 마십시오.

▶ Yet do not say, "We have met wisdom. God may vanquish him but not man!"

그가 저에게 말을 걸지 않았기에 저는 그에게 여러분의 언설로 대답하지 않으렵니다.

▶ For had he addressed his words to me, I should not then have answered him as you have done.
|

그들은 당황하여 더 이상 대답하지 못하고 말문이 막혀 버렸네.

▶ They are dismayed, they make no more reply; words fail them.

|
그들이 말을 못하고 더 이상 대답하지 못하고 서 있는데 나도 기다려야 하나?

▶ Must I wait? Now that they speak no more, and have ceased to make reply,

이제는 나도 내 몫으로 대답하리라. 나도 내 의견을 제시하리라.

▶ I too will speak my part; I also will show my knowledge!

|
나는 하고픈 말로 가득하고 속에서는 영이 말하고파 나를 다그친다네.

▶ For I am full of matters to utter; the spirit within me compels me.

|
내 속은 바람구멍 없는 술통 같고 새 술 부대처럼 터져 버리려 하네.

▶ Like a new wineskin with wine under pressure, my bosom is ready to burst.

|
속이 후련하게 말을 해야지. 입술을 열고 대답해야지.

▶ Let me speak and obtain relief; let me open my lips, and make reply.

|
어떤 인간의 편도 들지 않고 어떤 사람에게도 아첨하지 않으리라.

▶ I would not be partial to anyone, nor give flattering titles to any.
|

|
나는 아첨할 줄 모른다네. 그랬다가는 나를 만드신 분께서 나를 당장 앗아 가시리라.

▶ For I know nought of flattery; if I did, my Maker would soon take me away.
