▶ 지혜를 찾아라
|

|
Hear, therefore, kings, and understand; learn, you magistrates of the earth's expanse!
|

|
▶ 임금들아, 들어라. 그리고 깨달아라. 세상 끝까지 통치하는 자들아, 배워라.
|

|
Hearken, you who are in power over the multitude and lord it over throngs of peoples!

|
|
▶ 많은 백성을 다스리고 수많은 민족을 자랑하는 자들아, 귀를 기울여라.
|
|
3
|
Because authority was given you by the LORD and sovereignty by the Most High, who shall probe your works and scrutinize your counsels!

|
|
▶ 너희의 권력은 주님께서 주셨고 통치권은 지극히 높으신 분께서 주셨다. 그분께서 너희가 하는 일들을 점검하시고 너희의 계획들을 검열하신다.

Because, though you were ministers of his kingdom, you judged not rightly, and did not keep the law, nor walk according to the will of God,

▶ 너희가 그분 나라의 신하들이면서도 올바르게 다스리지 않고 법을 지키지 않으며 하느님의 뜻을 따르지 않았기 때문이다.

|
Terribly and swiftly shall he come against you, because judgment is stern for the exalted -
|

|
▶ 그분께서는 지체 없이 무서운 모습으로 너희에게 들이닥치실 것이다. 정녕 높은 자리에 있는 자들은 엄격한 심판을 받을 것이다.

|
For the lowly may be pardoned out of mercy but the mighty shall be mightily put to the test.
|

▶ 미천한 이들은 자비로 용서를 받지만 권력자들은 엄하게 재판을 받을 것이다.

|
For the Lord of all shows no partiality, nor does he fear greatness, Because he himself made the great as well as the small, and he provides for all alike;

|
▶ 만물의 주님께서는 누구 앞에서도 움츠러들지 않으시고 누가 위대하다고 하여 어려워하지도 않으신다. 작거나 크거나 다 그분께서 만드셨고 모두 똑같이 생각해 주신다.

but for those in power a rigorous scrutiny impends.

▶ 그러나 세력가들은 엄정하게 심리하신다.

|
To you, therefore, O princes, are my words addressed that you may learn wisdom and that you may not sin.

▶ 그러니 군주들아, 내가 너희에게 하는 말을 듣고 지혜를 배워 탈선하는 일이 없도록 하여라.

|
For those who keep the holy precepts hallowed shall be found holy, and those learned in them will have ready a response.

▶ 거룩한 것을 거룩하게 지키는 이들은 거룩한 사람이 되고 거룩한 것을 익힌 이들은 변호를 받을 것이다.

Desire therefore my words; long for them and you shall be instructed.

▶ 그러므로 너희가 나의 말을 갈망하고 갈구하면 가르침을 얻을 것이다.

|
Resplendent and unfading is Wisdom, and she is readily perceived by those who love her, and found by those who seek her.

▶ 지혜는 바래지 않고 늘 빛이 나서 그를 사랑하는 이들은 쉽게 알아보고 그를 찾는 이들은 쉽게 발견할 수 있다.

|
She hastens to make herself known in anticipation of men's desire;
|

▶ 지혜는 자기를 갈망하는 이들에게 미리 다가가 자기를 알아보게 해 준다.

|
he who watches for her at dawn shall not be disappointed, for he shall find her sitting by his gate.

▶ 지혜를 찾으러 일찍 일어나는 이는 수고할 필요도 없이 자기 집 문간에 앉아 있는 지혜를 발견하게 된다.

|
For taking thought of her is the perfection of prudence, and he who for her sake keeps vigil shall quickly be free from care;
|

|
▶ 지혜를 깊이 생각하는 것 자체가 완전한 예지다. 지혜를 얻으려고 깨어 있는 이는 곧바로 근심이 없어진다.

|
Because she makes her own rounds, seeking those worthy of her, and graciously appears to them in the ways, and meets them with all solicitude.

▶ 지혜는 자기에게 맞갖은 이들을 스스로 찾아 돌아다니고 그들이 다니는 길에서 상냥하게 모습을 드러내며 그들의 모든 생각 속에서 그들을 만나 준다.

For the first step toward discipline is a very earnest desire for her; then, care for discipline is love of her;
|

|
love means the keeping of her laws; To observe her laws is the basis for incorruptibility;

▶ 가르침을 받으려고 염원함은 지혜를 사랑하는 것이고 지혜를 사랑함은 그 법을 지키는 것이며 법을 따름은 불멸을 보장받는 것이고

and incorruptibility makes one close to God;

▶ 불멸은 하느님 가까이 있게 해 주는 것이다.

|
thus the desire for Wisdom leads up to a kingdom.

▶ 그리하여 지혜를 향한 소망은 사람을 왕위로 이끌어 준다.

|
If, then, you find pleasure in throne and scepter, you princes of the peoples, honor Wisdom, that you may reign as kings forever.

▶ 그러니 민족들을 다스리는 군주들아 너희가 왕좌와 왕홀을 즐기거든 지혜를 존중하여라. 그러면 영원히 다스리게 될 것이다.

Now what wisdom is, and how she came to be I shall relate; and I shall hide no secrets from you, But from the very beginning I shall search out and bring to light knowledge of her, nor shall I diverge from the truth.

Neither shall I admit consuming jealousy to my company, because that can have no fellowship with Wisdom.

▶ 사람을 좀먹는 시기를 결코 길벗으로 삼지도 않겠다. 시기는 지혜와 자리를 함께할 수 없기 때문이다.

A great number of wise men is the safety of the world, and a prudent king, the stability of his people;

so take instruction from my words, to your profit.
