in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, tried to understand in the Scriptures the counting of the years of which the LORD spoke to the prophet Jeremiah: that for the ruins of Jerusalem seventy years must be fulfilled.

▶ 그의 통치 제일년에 나 다니엘은 성경을 펴 놓고, 예레미야 예언자에게 내린 주님의 말씀대로, 예루살렘이 폐허가 된 채 채워야 하는 햇수를 곰곰이 생각하고 있었다. 그것은 일흔 해였다.

I turned to the Lord God, pleading in earnest prayer, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.

I prayed to the LORD, my God, and confessed, "Ah, Lord, great and awesome God, you who keep your merciful covenant toward those who love you and observe your commandments!

▶ 나는 주 나의 하느님께 기도하고 죄를 고백하며 아뢰었다. “아, 주님! 위대하시고 경외로우신 하느님, 당신을 사랑하고 당신의 계명을 지키는 이들에게 계약과 자애를 지키시는 분!

|
We have sinned, been wicked and done evil; we have rebelled and departed from your commandments and your laws.

|
|
▶ 저희는 죄를 짓고 불의를 저질렀으며 악을 행하고 당신께 거역하였습니다. 당신의 계명과 법규에서 벗어났습니다.

|
We have not obeyed your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land.

▶ 저희는 저희의 임금들과 고관들과 조상들과 나라의 모든 백성들에게 당신의 이름으로 말하는 당신의 종 예언자들에게 귀를 기울이지 않았습니다.

Justice, O Lord, is on your side; we are shamefaced even to this day: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel, near and far, in all the countries to which you have scattered them because of their treachery toward you.

▶ 주님, 당신께서는 의로우십니다. 그러나 저희는 오늘 이처럼 얼굴에 부끄러움만 가득합니다. 유다 사람, 예루살렘 주민들, 그리고 가까이 살든 멀리 살든, 당신께 저지른 배신 때문에 당신께서 내쫓으신 그 모든 나라에 사는 이스라엘인들도 다 마찬가지입니다.

O LORD, we are shamefaced, like our kings, our princes, and our fathers, for having sinned against you.

▶ 주님, 저희의 임금들과 고관들과 조상들을 비롯하여 저희는 모두 얼굴에 부끄러움만 가득합니다. 저희가 당신께 죄를 지었기 때문입니다.

But yours, O Lord, our God, are compassion and forgiveness! Yet we rebelled against you
|

|
▶ 주 저희 하느님께서는 자비하시고 용서를 베푸시는 분이십니다. 그러나 저희는 주님께 거역하였습니다.

|
and paid no heed to your command, O LORD, our God, to live by the law you gave us through your servants the prophets.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 주 저희 하느님의 말씀을 듣지 않고, 당신의 종 예언자들을 통하여 저희 앞에 내놓으신 법에 따라 걷지 않았습니다.

|
Because all Israel transgressed your law and went astray, not heeding your voice, the sworn malediction, recorded in the law of Moses, the servant of God, was poured out over us for our sins.

▶ 온 이스라엘은 당신의 말씀을 듣지 않고, 당신의 율법을 어기고 그것에서 벗어났습니다. 그리하여 하느님의 종 모세의 율법에 쓰인 저주와 맹세가 저희에게 쏟아졌습니다. 저희가 주님께 죄를 지었기 때문입니다.

You carried out the threats you spoke against us and against those who governed us, by bringing upon us in Jerusalem the greatest calamity that has ever occurred under heaven.

|
|
▶ 그리하여 주님께서는 저희에게 큰 불행을 내리시어, 저희와 저희를 다스린 통치자들을 두고 하신 말씀을 이루셨습니다. 예루살렘에 일어난 것과 같이 그렇게 큰 불행은 온 천하 어디에서도 일어난 적이 없습니다.

As it is written in the law of Moses, this calamity came full upon us. As we did not appease the LORD, our God, by turning back from our wickedness and recognizing his constancy,

▶ 모세의 율법에 쓰인 대로 이 모든 불행이 저희에게 닥쳤습니다. 그러나 저희는 저희의 죄악에서 돌아서지도 않고 당신의 성실하심을 깨닫지도 못하였습니다. 그러면서 주 저희 하느님께 호의를 간청하지 않았습니다.

|
so the LORD kept watch over the calamity and brought it upon us. You, O LORD, our God, are just in all that you have done, for we did not listen to your voice.

▶ 주님께서는 그 불행을 간수하셨다가 저희에게 내리셨습니다. 정녕 주 저희 하느님께서는 하시는 일마다 의로우십니다. 그런데 저희는 주님의 말씀을 듣지 않았습니다.

"Now, O Lord, our God, who led your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand, and made a name for yourself even to this day, we have sinned, we are guilty.
|

▶ 이제, 주 저희 하느님! 당신께서는 강한 손으로 당신의 백성을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내시어, 오늘날까지도 명성을 떨치셨습니다. 그러나 저희는 죄를 짓고 악을 저질렀습니다.

O Lord, in keeping with all your just deeds, let your anger and your wrath be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain. On account of our sins and the crimes of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become the reproach of all our neighbors.

▶ 주님, 당신의 그 모든 의로운 업적을 보시어, 당신의 도성 예루살렘에서, 당신의 거룩한 산에서 당신의 분노와 진노를 거두어 주십시오. 저희의 죄와 저희 조상들의 죄악 때문에, 예루살렘과 당신의 백성이 주위에 있는 모든 민족들에게 수치가 되고 말았습니다.

Hear, therefore, O God, the prayer and petition of your servant; and for your own sake, O Lord, let your face shine upon your desolate sanctuary.

▶ 그러니 이제 저희의 하느님, 당신 종의 기도와 간청을 들어 주십시오. 주님, 당신 자신을 생각하시어 황폐한 당신의 성소에 당신 얼굴의 빛을 비추십시오.

Give ear, O my God, and listen; open your eyes and see our ruins and the city which bears your name. When we present our petition before you, we rely not on our just deeds, but on your great mercy.

|
▶ 저의 하느님, 귀를 기울여 들어 주십시오. 눈을 뜨시어 저희의 폐허와 당신의 이름으로 불리는 도성을 보십시오. 저희가 당신 앞에 간청을 올리는 것은 저희의 어떤 의로운 업적이 아니라, 당신의 크신 자비 때문입니다.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, pardon! O Lord, be attentive and act without delay, for your own sake, O my God, because this city and your people bear your name!"

I was still occupied with my prayer, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, presenting my petition to the LORD, my God, on behalf of his holy mountain -

▶ 내가 이렇게 말하면서 기도하고 나의 죄와 내 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 고백하며, 내 하느님의 거룩한 산을 위하여 주 나의 하느님 앞에 간청을 올리고 있었다.

I was still occupied with this prayer, when Gabriel, the one whom I had seen before in vision, came to me in rapid flight at the time of the evening sacrifice.

▶ 내가 이렇게 기도하며 아뢰고 있는데, 지난번 환시에서 본 가브리엘이라는 이가 저녁 예물을 바칠 때에 빨리 날아서 나에게 다가왔다.

He instructed me in these words: "Daniel, I have now come to give you understanding.
|

▶ 그렇게 와서 나에게 말하였다. “다니엘아, 내가 너를 깨닫게 해 주려고 이렇게 나왔다.

|
When you began your petition, an answer was given which I have come to announce, because you are beloved. Therefore, mark the answer and understand the vision.
|

|
|
|
▶ 네가 간청하기 시작할 때에 이미 말씀이 내렸는데, 그것을 일러 주려고 내가 왔다. 네가 총애를 받는 사람이기 때문이다. 그러니 이 말씀에 주의를 기울여서 환상의 뜻을 깨닫도록 하여라.

"Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and for your holy city: Then transgression will stop and sin will end, guilt will be expiated, Everlasting justice will be introduced, vision and prophecy ratified, and a most holy will be anointed.
|

|
|
▶ 너의 백성과 너의 거룩한 도성에 정해진 일흔 주간이 지나야 악행이 그치고 죄가 끝나며 속죄가 이루어지리라. 또한 영원한 정의가 펼쳐지고 환시와 예언이 확증되며 가장 거룩한 곳에 기름이 부어지리라.

|
Know and understand this: From the utterance of the word that Jerusalem was to be rebuilt Until one who is anointed and a leader, there shall be seven weeks. During sixty-two weeks it shall be rebuilt, With streets and trenches, in time of affliction.

|
▶ 그러니 너는 이것을 알고 이해해야 한다. 예루살렘을 복구하고 재건하라는 말씀이 내린 때부터 기름부음 받은 영도자가 나올 때까지 일곱 주간이 흐르리라. 또 예순두 주간이 흐르는 동안 예루살렘이 복구되고 재건되어 광장과 외호까지 갖추겠지만 그 기간은 어려운 때가 되리라.

|
After the sixty-two weeks an anointed shall be cut down when he does not possess the city; And the people of a leader who will come shall destroy the sanctuary. Then the end shall come like a torrent; until the end there shall be war, the desolation that is decreed.
|

|
▶ 이렇게 예순두 주간이 흐른 다음 기름부음받은이가 잘려 나가 그에게 아무것도 남지 않으리라. 그리고 도성과 성소는 앞으로 일어날 군주의 군대가 허물어 버리리라. 그 종말은 홍수처럼 들이닥치리라. 전쟁이 끝날 때까지 황폐하게 남도록 결정되었다.

For one week he shall make a firm compact with the many; Half the week he shall abolish sacrifice and oblation; On the temple wing shall be the horrible abomination until the ruin that is decreed is poured out upon the horror."

▶ 그 군주는 한 주간 동안 많은 이와 강력한 동맹을 맺고 반 주간 동안은 희생 제물과 곡식 제물을 바치지 못하게 하리라. 성전 날개에는 황폐를 부르는 혐오스러운 것이 세워져 황폐하게 만드는 그자에게 이미 결정된 멸망이 쏟아질 때까지 서 있으리라.”
