in which you once lived following the age of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the disobedient.

▶ 그 안에서 여러분은 한때 이 세상의 풍조에 따라, 공중을 다스리는 지배자, 곧 지금도 순종하지 않는 자들 안에서 작용하는 영을 따라 살았습니다.

All of us once lived among them in the desires of our flesh, following the wishes of the flesh and the impulses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest.

▶ 우리도 다 한때 그들 가운데에서 우리 육의 욕망에 이끌려 살면서, 육과 감각이 원하는 것을 따랐습니다. 그리하여 우리도 본디 다른 사람들과 마찬가지로 하느님의 진노를 살 수밖에 없었습니다.

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us,

▶ 그러나 자비가 풍성하신 하느님께서는 우리를 사랑하신 그 큰 사랑으로,

even when we were dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

▶ 잘못을 저질러 죽었던 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨습니다. ─ 여러분은 이렇게 은총으로 구원을 받은 것입니다. ─

raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus,

▶ 하느님께서는 그리스도 예수님 안에서 우리를 그분과 함께 일으키시고 그분과 함께 하늘에 앉히셨습니다.

that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

▶ 하느님께서는 이렇게 그리스도 예수님 안에서 우리에게 베푸신 호의로, 당신의 은총이 얼마나 엄청나게 풍성한지를 앞으로 올 모든 시대에 보여 주려고 하셨습니다.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;

it is not from works, so no one may boast.

For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.

▶ 우리는 하느님의 작품입니다. 우리는 선행을 하도록 그리스도 예수님 안에서 창조되었습니다. 하느님께서는 우리가 선행을 하며 살아가도록 그 선행을 미리 준비하셨습니다.

were at that time without Christ, alienated from the community of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.

▶ 그때에는 여러분이 그리스도와 관계가 없었고, 이스라엘 공동체에서 멀리 떨어져 있었으며, 약속의 계약과도 무관하였고, 이 세상에서 아무 희망도 가지지 못한 채 하느님 없이 살았다는 사실을 기억하십시오.

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have become near by the blood of Christ.

For he is our peace, he who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh,

▶ 그리스도는 우리의 평화이십니다. 그분께서는 당신의 몸으로 유다인과 이민족을 하나로 만드시고 이 둘을 가르는 장벽인 적개심을 허무셨습니다.

abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims, that he might create in himself one new person in place of the two, thus establishing peace,

▶ 또 그 모든 계명과 조문과 함께 율법을 폐지하셨습니다. 그렇게 하여 당신 안에서 두 인간을 하나의 새 인간으로 창조하시어 평화를 이룩하시고,

and might reconcile both with God, in one body, through the cross, putting that enmity to death by it.

He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near,

▶ 이렇게 그리스도께서는 세상에 오시어, 멀리 있던 여러분에게도 평화를 선포하시고 가까이 있던 이들에게도 평화를 선포하셨습니다.

for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.

So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God,

▶ 그러므로 여러분은 이제 더 이상 외국인도 아니고 이방인도 아닙니다. 성도들과 함께 한 시민이며 하느님의 한 가족입니다.

built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.

▶ 여러분은 사도들과 예언자들의 기초 위에 세워진 건물이고, 그리스도 예수님께서는 바로 모퉁잇돌이십니다.

|
Through him the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord;

▶ 그리스도 안에서 전체가 잘 결합된 이 건물이 주님 안에서 거룩한 성전으로 자라납니다.

in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
