제삼십년 넷째 달 초닷샛날이었다. 나는 유배자들과 함께 크바르 강 가에 있었다. 그때 하늘이 열리면서 나는 하느님께서 보여 주시는 환시를 보았다.

그때 내가 바라보니, 북쪽에서 폭풍이 불어오면서, 광채로 둘러싸인 큰 구름과 번쩍거리는 불이 밀려드는데, 그 광채 한가운데에는 불 속에서 빛나는 금붙이 같은 것이 보였다.

▶ As I looked, a stormwind came from the North, a huge cloud with flashing fire (enveloped in brightness), from the midst of which (the midst of the fire) something gleamed like electrum.

또 그 한가운데에서 네 생물의 형상이 나타나는데, 그들의 모습은 이러하였다. 그들은 사람의 형상과 같았다.

▶ Within it were figures resembling four living creatures that looked like this: their form was human,

저마다 얼굴이 넷이고, 날개도 저마다 넷이었다.

다리는 곧고 발바닥은 송아지 발바닥 같았는데, 광낸 구리처럼 반짝거렸다.

▶ and their legs went straight down; the soles of their feet were round. They sparkled with a gleam like burnished bronze.

|
그들의 날개 밑에는 사방으로 사람 손이 보였고, 네 생물이 다 얼굴과 날개가 따로 있었다.

▶ Human hands were under their wings, and the wings of one touched those of another.

그들의 날개는 서로 닿아 있으면서, 나아갈 때에는 몸을 돌리지 않고 저마다 곧장 앞으로 갔다.

▶ Their faces (and their wings) looked out on all their four sides; they did not turn when they moved, but each went straight forward.

그들의 얼굴 형상은 사람의 얼굴인데, 넷이 저마다 오른쪽은 사자의 얼굴이고 왼쪽은 황소의 얼굴이었으며 독수리의 얼굴도 있었다.

▶ Their faces were like this: each of the four had the face of a man, but on the right side was the face of a lion, and on the left side the face of an ox, and finally each had the face of an eagle.

이것이 그들의 얼굴이었다. 그들의 날개는 위로 펼쳐진 채, 저마다 두 날개는 서로 닿고 다른 두 날개는 몸을 가리고 있었다.

▶ Each had two wings spread out above so that they touched one another's, while the other two wings of each covered his body.

그들은 저마다 곧장 앞으로 나아가는데, 몸을 돌리지 않고 어디로든 영이 가려는 곳으로 갔다.

그 생물들 가운데에는 불타는 숯불 같은 것이 있었는데, 생물들 사이를 왔다 갔다 하는 횃불의 모습 같았고, 그 불은 광채를 낼 뿐만 아니라, 그 불에서는 번개도 터져 나왔다.

▶ In among the living creatures something like burning coals of fire could be seen; they seemed like torches, moving to and fro among the living creatures. The fire gleamed, and from it came forth flashes of lightning.

그리고 생물들은 번개가 치는 모습처럼 나왔다 들어갔다 하였다.

▶ As I looked at the living creatures, I saw wheels on the ground, one beside each of the four living creatures.

내가 그 생물들을 바라보니, 생물들 옆 땅바닥에는 네 얼굴에 따라 바퀴가 하나씩 있었다.

▶ The wheels had the sparkling appearance of chrysolite, and all four of them looked the same: they were constructed as though one wheel were within another.

그 바퀴들의 모습과 생김새는 빛나는 녹주석 같은데, 넷의 형상이 모두 같았으며, 그 모습과 생김새는 바퀴 안에 또 바퀴가 들어 있는 것 같았다.

▶ They could move in any of the four directions they faced, without veering as they moved.

그것들이 나아갈 때에는, 몸을 돌리지 않고 사방 어디로든 갔다.

바퀴 테두리는 모두 높다랗고 보기에 무서운 데다, 그 네 테두리 사방에 눈이 가득하였다.

▶ When the living creatures moved, the wheels moved with them; and when the living creatures were raised from the ground, the wheels also were raised.

그 생물들이 나아가면 그 곁에서 바퀴들도 나아가고, 생물들이 땅에서 떠오르면 바퀴들도 떠올랐다.

▶ Wherever the spirit wished to go, there the wheels went, and they were raised together with the living creatures; for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

|
어디로든 영이 가려고 하면, 생물들은 영이 가려는 그곳으로 가고, 바퀴들도 그들과 함께 떠올랐다. 그 바퀴들 안에 생물의 영이 있었기 때문이다.

▶ When the living creatures moved on, they moved on; when the former halted, the latter halted; when the former left the ground, the wheels too left the ground, since the wheels shared the spirit of the animals.

생물들이 나아가면 바퀴들도 나아가고, 생물들이 멈추면 바퀴들도 멈추었다. 또 생물들이 땅에서 떠오르면 바퀴들도 그들과 함께 떠올랐다. 그 바퀴들 안에 생물의 영이 있었기 때문이다.

▶ Over the heads of the living creatures, something like a firmament could be seen, seeming like glittering crystal, stretched straight out above their heads.

그 생물들 머리 위에는 빛나는 수정 같은 궁창의 형상이 무섭게 자리 잡았는데, 그들 머리 위로 펼쳐져 있었다.

▶ Beneath the firmament their wings were stretched out, one toward the other. (Each of them had two covering his body.)

▶ Then I heard the sound of their wings, like the roaring of mighty waters, like the voice of the Almighty. When they moved, the sound of the tumult was like the din of an army. (And when they stood still, they lowered their wings.)

그들이 나아갈 때에는 날갯소리가 들리는데, 마치 큰 물이 밀려오는 소리 같고 전능하신 분의 천둥소리 같았으며, 군중의 고함 소리, 진영의 고함 소리 같았다. 그러다가 멈출 때에는 날개를 접었다.

▶ Above the firmament over their heads something like a throne could be seen, looking like sapphire. Upon it was seated, up above, one who had the appearance of a man.

그들 머리 위에 있는 궁창 위에서도 소리가 들려왔다. 그러다가 멈출 때에는 날개를 접었다.

▶ Upward from what resembled his waist I saw what gleamed like electrum; downward from what resembled his waist I saw what looked like fire; he was surrounded with splendor.

그들의 머리 위 궁창 위에는 청옥처럼 보이는 어좌 형상이 있고, 그 어좌 형상 위에는 사람처럼 보이는 형상이 앉아 있었다.

▶ Like the bow which appears in the clouds on a rainy day was the splendor that surrounded him. Such was the vision of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I had seen it, I fell upon my face and heard a voice that said to me:

내가 또 바라보니, 그의 허리처럼 보이는 부분의 위쪽은 빛나는 금붙이와 같고, 사방이 불로 둘러싸인 것 같았다. 그리고 그의 허리처럼 보이는 부분의 아래쪽은 불처럼 보였는데, 사방이 광채로 둘러싸여 있었다.

사방으로 뻗은 광채의 모습은, 비 오는 날 구름에 나타나는 무지개처럼 보였다. 그것은 주님 영광의 형상처럼 보였다. 그것을 보고 나는 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸다. 그때 나는 말씀하시는 분의 소리를 들었다.
