그렇다면 우리가 무엇이라고 말해야 합니까? 은총이 많아지도록 우리가 계속 죄 안에 머물러 있어야 합니까?

▶ What then shall we say? Shall we persist in sin that grace may abound? Of course not!

결코 그렇지 않습니다. 죄에서는 이미 죽은 우리가 어떻게 여전히 죄 안에 살 수 있겠습니까?

▶ How can we who died to sin yet live in it?

그리스도 예수님과 하나 되는 세례를 받은 우리가 모두 그분의 죽음과 하나 되는 세례를 받았다는 사실을 여러분은 모릅니까?

▶ Or are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

과연 우리는 그분의 죽음과 하나 되는 세례를 통하여 그분과 함께 묻혔습니다. 그리하여 그리스도께서 아버지의 영광을 통하여 죽은 이들 가운데에서 되살아나신 것처럼, 우리도 새로운 삶을 살아가게 되었습니다.

▶ We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.

사실 우리가 그분처럼 죽어 그분과 결합되었다면, 부활 때에도 분명히 그리될 것입니다.

▶ For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection.

▶ We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin.

우리는 그리스도께서 죽은 이들 가운데에서 되살아나시어 다시는 돌아가시지 않으리라는 것을 압니다. 죽음은 더 이상 그분 위에 군림하지 못합니다.

▶ As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God.

▶ Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as (being) dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.

그러므로 죄가 여러분의 죽을 몸을 지배하여 여러분이 그 욕망에 순종하는 일이 없도록 하십시오.

▶ Therefore, sin must not reign over your mortal bodies so that you obey their desires.

|
그리고 여러분의 지체를 불의의 도구로 죄에 넘기지 마십시오. 오히려 죽은 이들 가운데에서 살아난 사람으로서 자신을 하느님께 바치고, 자기 지체를 의로움의 도구로 하느님께 바치십시오.

▶ And do not present the parts of your bodies to sin as weapons for wickedness, but present yourselves to God as raised from the dead to life and the parts of your bodies to God as weapons for righteousness.

죄가 여러분 위에 군림할 수는 없습니다. 여러분은 율법 아래 있지 않고 은총 아래 있습니다.

▶ For sin is not to have any power over you, since you are not under the law but under grace.

그렇다면 우리가 무엇이라고 말해야 합니까? 우리가 율법 아래 있지 않고 은총 아래 있으니 죄를 지어도 좋습니까? 결코 그렇지 않습니다.

▶ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? Of course not!

여러분이 어떤 사람에게 자신을 종으로 넘겨 순종하면 여러분이 순종하는 그 사람의 종이라는 사실을 모릅니까? 여러분은 죽음으로 이끄는 죄의 종이 되거나 의로움으로 이끄는 순종의 종이 되거나 하는 것입니다.

▶ Do you not know that if you present yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

그러나 하느님께 감사하게도, 여러분이 전에는 죄의 종이었지만, 이제는 여러분이 전해 받은 표준 가르침에 마음으로부터 순종하게 되었습니다.

▶ But thanks be to God that, although you were once slaves of sin, you have become obedient from the heart to the pattern of teaching to which you were entrusted.

▶ Freed from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.

|
나는 여러분이 지닌 육의 나약성 때문에 사람들의 방식으로 말합니다. 여러분이 전에 자기 지체를 더러움과 불법에 종으로 넘겨 불법에 빠져 있었듯이, 이제는 자기 지체를 의로움에 종으로 바쳐 성화에 이르십시오.

▶ I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your nature. For just as you presented the parts of your bodies as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness for lawlessness, so now present them as slaves to righteousness for sanctification.

여러분이 죄의 종이었을 때에는 의로움에 매이지 않았습니다.

▶ For when you were slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness.
|

|
그때에 여러분이 지금은 부끄럽게 여기는 것들을 행하여 무슨 소득을 거두었습니까? 그러한 것들의 끝은 죽음입니다.

|
▶ But what profit did you get then from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

그런데 이제 여러분이 죄에서 해방되고 하느님의 종이 되어 얻는 소득은 성화로 이끌어 줍니다. 또 그 끝은 영원한 생명입니다.

▶ But now that you have been freed from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit that you have leads to sanctification, and its end is eternal life.

죄가 주는 품삯은 죽음이지만, 하느님의 은사는 우리 주 그리스도 예수님 안에서 받는 영원한 생명이기 때문입니다.

▶ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
