In the second year of Darius, in the eighth month, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo:

The LORD was indeed angry with your fathers. . .
|

▶ “주님이 너희 조상들에게 크게 화가 났다.
|
|
3
|
and say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Return to me, says the LORD of hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts.
|

▶ 그러므로 너는 그들에게 말하여라. ‘만군의 주님이 말한다. 너희는 나에게 돌아와라. 만군의 주님의 말씀이다. 그러면 나도 너희에게 돌아가리라. ─ 만군의 주님께서 말씀하신다.’

Be not like your fathers whom the former prophets warned: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Turn from your evil ways and from your wicked deeds. But they would not listen or pay attention to me, says the LORD.

▶ 너희는 너희 조상들처럼 되지 마라. 이전의 예언자들은 ‘만군의 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 너희는 부디 너희의 악한 길과 악한 행동을 버리고 돌아와라.’ 하고 외쳤으나, 그들은 듣지도 않고 나에게 주의를 기울이지도 않았다. 주님의 말씀이다.

Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, can they live forever?

▶ 너희의 그 조상들은 어디에 있느냐? 또 그 예언자들은 아직도 살아 있느냐?
|

|
But my words and my decrees, which I entrusted to my servants the prophets, did not these overtake your fathers? Then they repented and admitted: "The LORD of hosts has treated us according to our ways and deeds, just as he had determined he would."

▶ 그러나 내가 나의 종 예언자들에게 내린 말과 규정들이 너희 조상들에게 이루어지지 않았느냐? 그래서 그들은 돌아와, ‘만군의 주님께서 우리를 두고 계획하신 대로, 우리의 길과 행동에 따라 우리를 다루셨다.’ 하고 말하였다.”

In the second year of Darius, on the twenty-fourth day of Shebat, the eleventh month, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, in the following way:

▶ 다리우스 제이년 열한째 달, 곧 스밧 달 스무나흗날에 주님의 말씀이 이또의 손자이며 베레크야의 아들인 즈카르야 예언자에게 내렸다.

I had a vision during the night. There appeared the driver of a red horse, standing among myrtle trees in a shady place, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses.

▶ 내가 밤에 보니, 붉은 말을 탄 사람이 골짜기의 도금양나무 사이에 서 있었다. 그 사람 뒤에는 붉은 말들과 검붉은 말들과 흰말들이 서 있었다.

Then I asked, "What are these, my lord?"; and the angel who spoke with me answered me, "I will show you what these are."

▶ 그래서 내가 “나리, 저것들은 무엇입니까?” 하고 물었더니, 나와 이야기하던 천사가, “저것들이 무엇인지 너에게 보여 주겠다.” 하고 대답하였다.

The man who was standing among the myrtle trees spoke up and said, "These are they whom the LORD has sent to patrol the earth."

▶ 그러자 도금양나무 사이에 서 있던 그 사람이, “이것들은 주님께서 세상을 두루 다니도록 보내신 것이다.” 하고 대답하였다.

|
And they answered the angel of the LORD who was standing among the myrtle trees and said, "We have patrolled the earth; see, the whole earth is tranquil and at rest!"

▶ 말 탄 사람들이 도금양나무 사이에 서 있던 주님의 천사에게 말하였다. “저희가 세상을 두루 다녀 보니, 온 세상은 평온하게 지내고 있었습니다.”

Then the angel of the Lord spoke out and said, "O LORD of hosts, how long will you be without mercy for Jerusalem and the cities of Judah that have felt your anger these seventy years?"

▶ 그러자 주님의 천사가 아뢰었다. “만군의 주님, 당신께서는 예루살렘과 유다의 성읍들을 가엾이 여기지 않으시고 언제까지 내버려 두시렵니까? 그들에게 진노하신 지 일흔 해나 되었습니다.”

To the angel who spoke with me, the LORD replied with comforting words.

▶ 주님께서는 나와 이야기하던 천사에게 다정하고도 위로가 되는 말씀으로 대답하셨다.

|
And the angel who spoke with me said to me, Proclaim: Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am deeply moved for the sake of Jerusalem and Zion,

▶ 나와 이야기하던 천사가 나에게 말하였다. “너는 외쳐라. 만군의 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ‘나는 예루살렘에, 시온에 커다란 열정을 지니고 있다.

and I am exceedingly angry with the complacent nations; whereas I was but a little angry, they added to the harm.
|

|
▶ 그러나 태평스러운 민족들에게는 몹시 화가 나 있다. 내가 조금밖에 화를 내지 않았는데도 그자들이 그들을 더 불행하게 만들었기 때문이다.

|
Therefore, says the LORD: I will turn to Jerusalem in mercy; my house shall be built in it, says the LORD of hosts, and a measuring line shall be stretched over Jerusalem.

▶ ─ 그러므로 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ─ 나는 동정심을 가지고 예루살렘에 돌아왔다. 그 안에 나의 집이 다시 지어지리라. 만군의 주님의 말씀이다. 측량줄이 예루살렘에 펼쳐지리라.’

Proclaim further: Thus says the LORD of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity; the LORD will again comfort Zion, and again choose Jerusalem.

▶ 너는 또 외쳐라. 만군의 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ‘내 성읍들은 다시 좋은 것으로 넘쳐흐르리라. 주님이 시온을 다시 위로하고 예루살렘을 다시 선택하리라.’”
