하느님께 바칠 희생제물이 되고 그분의 사제가 되십시오 Esto Dei sacreificium et sacerdos / Each one of us is called to be both a sacrifice to God and his priest /

그리스도인의 사제직은 얼마나 탁월합니까! 그리스도인은 자신이 사제인 동시에 희생제물입니다. 그리스도인은 하느님께 바칠 제물로 자기 자신 외에 다른 것을 찾지 않습니다. 그는 하느님께 바칠 제물을 자기 자신 안에 스스로 가지고 있습니다. 희생제물도 없어지지 않고 사제도 없어지지 않습니다. 희생제물은 희생되어도 계속 살아있습니다.

O inauditum christiani pontificatus officium, quando homo sibi ipse est et hostia et sacerdos; quando homo non extrinsecus quod Deo est immolaturus inuqirit; quando homo secum, et in se, et quod pro se est, Deo sacreificaturus apportat; quando et eadem manet hostia, idem permanet et sacerdos; quando hostia mactatur et vivit, sacerdos nescit occidere qui litabit.

 How marvellous is the priesthood of the Christian, for he is both the victim that is offered on his own behalf, and the priest who makes the offering. He does not need to go beyond himself to seek what he is to immolate to God: with himself and in himself he brings the sacrifice he is to offer God for himself. The victim remains and the priest remains, always one and the same. Immolated, the victim still lives: the priest who immolates cannot kill.--

여러분은 하느님의 희생제물이 되고 또 사제가 되십시오. 하느님의 권위가 여러분에게 내려준 그 특전을 버리지 마십시오. 거룩함의 옷을 입고 정결의 띠를 두르십시오. 그리스도께서 여러분의 투구가 되게 하고 그리스도의 십자가가 언제나 여러분의 이마에 있게 하십시오, 여러분의 가슴에 천상 지식이 머물도록 하고 상긋한 내음새를 풍기는 기도의 향을 끊임없이 피우십시오 여러분의 손에 성령의 칼을 쥐십시오, 여러분의 마음은 거룩한 제단이 되고 하느님께 의지하여 여러분의 몸을 희생제물로 드리십시오, 하느님은 여러분의 죽음이 아니라 믿음을 구하십니다. 그분은 여러분의 피가 아니고 여러분의 마음을 갈망하십니다. 죽음으로가 아니라 선의로 말미암아 그분의 마음은 온화하고 누그러지십니다.

Esto, homo, esto Dei sacrificium et sacerdos; non amittas quod tibi divina dedit et concessit auctoritas; induere sanctitatis stolam, praecingere balteum castitatis; sit in velamento capitis tui Christus; crux in frontis tui munimine perseveret; pectori tuo appone divinae scientiae sacramentum; in odorem thymiama semper orationis accende; arripe glaudium Spiritus; altare cor tuum pone; et sic corpus tuum admove Dei securus ad victiman. Deus fidem, non mortem quaerit; votum, non sanguinem sitit; placatur voluntate, non nece.

Each of us is called to be both a sacrifice to God and his priest. Do not forfeit what divine authority confers on you. Put on the garment of holiness, gird yourself with the belt of chastity. Let Christ be your helmet, let the cross on your forehead be your unfailing protection. Your breastplate should be the knowledge of God that he himself has given you. Keep burning continually the sweet smelling incense of prayer. Take up the sword of the Spirit. Let your heart be an altar. Then, with full confidence in God, present your body for sacrifice. God desires not death, but faith; God thirsts not for blood, but for self-surrender; God is appeased not by slaughter, but by the offering of your free will.
