헨리 나웬 신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 4월 7일 <우리의 진실을 일깨우는 동무들> Friends as Reminders of Our Truth 때때로 슬픔에 푹 빠져버려 기쁨일랑 믿을 수 없을 때가 있습니다. 사람이 산다는 게 전쟁과 폭력, 따돌림과 외로움, 그리고 끝없는 실망으로 가득찬 물잔처럼 보일 뿐입니다. 이럴 때 우리에게 필요한 건 으깨진 포도에서 맛좋은 포도주를 빚어낼 수 있다는 걸 일깨워 줄 동무들입니다. 슬픔에서 무슨 기쁨이 생길 수 있다는 게 믿기 어려울지 모릅니다. 하지만 동무들이 일러주는대로 조금씩 나아가면, 심지어 동무들이 하는 말의 진실을 미처 느끼진 못할지라도 잃어버렸다고 생각한 기쁨을 되 찾아 슬픔에서 살아낼 수 있을 겁니다. 보아즈가 대답하였다. “네 남편이 죽은 다음 네가 시어머니에게 한 일과 또 네 아버지와 어머니 그리고 네 고향을 떠나 전에는 알지도 못하던 겨레에게 온 것을 내가 다 잘 들었다. 주님께서 네가 행한 바를 갚아 주실 것이다. 네가 이스라엘의 하느님이신 주님의 날개 아래로 피신하려고 왔으니, 그분께서 너에게 충만히 보상해 주시기를 빈다.”(룻2,11,12) Friends as Reminders of Our Truth APRIL 7 Sometimes our sorrow overwhelms us so much that we no longer can believe in joy. Life just seems a cup filled to the brim with war, violence, rejection, loneliness, and endless disappointments. At times like this we need our friends to remind us that crushed grapes can produce tasty wine. It might be hard for us to trust that any joy can come from our sorrow, but when we start taking steps in the direction of our friends’ advice, even when we ourselves are not yet able to feel the truth of what they say, the joy that seemed to be lost may be found again and our sorrow may become livable. Boaz replied, "I've been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband --- how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before. May the Lord repay you for what you have done.
