헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 10월 22일 [백] 성 요한 바오로 2세 교황 <성인들의 뜰이라는 것> The Garden of the Saints 교회는 매우 사람다운 조직이지만 하느님의 은총이 자라고 있는 뜰이기도 합니다. 그 뜰에선 엄청난 거룩함(聖性)의 꽃이 늘 흐드러지게 피는 겁니다. 성인들은 나름의 특별한 방법으로 살아 계신 그리스도를 우리가 볼 수 있게 하시는 분입니다. 어떤 성인들은 제 삶을 바쳐 그리스도와 교회를 섬겼고 또 어떤 성인들은 영혼을 살찌우는 말씀을 하시고 글을 남기셨으며, 어떤 성인들은 힘겨운 처지에서도 영웅적인 삶을 보내셨고, 어떤 성인들은 기도와 묵상 가운데 고요히 숨겨진 삶을 보내셨습니다. 어떤 성인들은 예언자의 목소리로 쇄신을 부르짖으셨고, 또 어떤 성인들은 영성의 전략가가 되어 큰 조직을 만들거나 사람들이 서로 연대하게 했습니다. 건강하고 힘이 강한 성인들도 계셨지만 몹시 앓거나 종종 근심 걱정으로 안절부절하신 성인들도 계셨습니다. 하지만 그분들 모두 제 나름대로의 방식으로 교회를 은총의 뜰처럼 사셨던 겁니다. 그분들은 은총의 뜰안에서 '내가 사랑하는 이'라고 부르시는 하느님의 소리를 들으며 예수님을 삶의 가온으로 모실 용기를 찾은 겁니다. "정원에 있는 그대여 친구들이 그대 목소리에 귀 기울이고 있구려. 나에게만 들려주오."(아가8,13) The Garden of the Saints OCTOBER 22 The Church is a very human organization but also the garden of God’s grace. It is a place where great sanctity keeps blooming. Saints are people who make the living Christ visible to us in a special way. Some saints have given their lives in the service of Christ and his Church; others have spoken and written words that keep nurturing us; some have lived heroically in difficult situations; others have remained hidden in quiet lives of prayer and meditation; some were prophetic voices calling for renewal; others were spiritual strategists setting up large organizations or networks of people; some were healthy and strong; others were quite sick, and often anxious and insecure. But all of them in their own ways lived in the Church as in a garden where they heard the voice calling them the Beloved and where they found the courage to make Jesus the center of their lives.
