헨리 나웬 신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 5월 21일 <예수님의 자비라는 것> Jesus' Compassion 예수님의 이름은 임마누엘이십니다. 임마누엘은 “하느님께서 우리와 함께 계시다”는 뜻입니다. (마태 1,22-23 참조) 예수님의 생애에서 보는 엄청난 역설은 사람들의 비난이나 칭찬에 전혀 휘둘리지 않으시고 오로지 하느님의 뜻에 따라 말씀과 행동을 하셨는 데도 세상 그 누구보다 더 우리와 “함께” 계셨다는 겁니다. 예수님의 자비 즉 우리와 함께 깊이 느끼시는 마음(聖心)은 사람들의 존경이 아니라 오로지 하늘에 계신 아버지의 사랑을 따르셨기에 가능했던 겁니다. 짜장 예수님께서 우리를 마음껏 사랑하시는 건 우리 사랑에 기대지 않으시기 때문인 겁니다. 그분은 군중을 보시고 가엾은 마음이 드셨다. 그들이 목자 없는 양들처럼 시달리며 기가 꺾여 있었기 때문이다. 그래서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “수확할 것은 많은데 일꾼은 적다. 그러니 수확할 밭의 주인님께 일꾼들을 보내 주십사고 청하여라.” (마태9,36-38) Jesus' Compassion May21 Jesus is called Emmanuel which means “God-with-us” (see Matthew 1: 22-23). The great paradox of Jesus’ life is that he, whose words and actions are in no way influenced by human blame or praise but are completely dependent on God’s will, is more “with” us than any other human being. Jesus’ compassion, his deep feeling-with us, is possible because his life is guided not by human respect but only by the love of his heavenly Father. Indeed, Jesus is free to love us because he is not dependent on our love. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
