헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 5월 28일 <자비로우신 예수님> Jesus Is Merciful 하느님께서 축복하신 아드님,  예수님께서는 자비로우십니다.  자비를 베푸는 건 가엾게 여기는 것과는 결이 다른 겁니다. 가엾이 여긴다는건 한 걸음 거리를 두고 심지어는 밑으로 내려다 보는 겁니다. 한푼 달라는 걸인에게 불쌍한 마음에서 돈 몇 푼 준다고 자비를 베푸는 건 아닙니다. 자비는 아픔을 함께 나누는 마음에서 오는 겁니다. 함께 되려는 갈망에서 솟아나오는 겁니다. 예수님께서는 우리를 낮춰 보길 바라지 않으셨습니다.  그분께서 바라시는 건 우리 가운데  한 사람이 되시어 우리와 함께 깊이 느끼시는 겁니다. 예수님께서 나인에 사는 과부의 외아들을 죽음에서 되살리신 건 눈물을 흘리는 어머니의 깊은 슬픔을 당신 마음 속에 느끼셨기 때문입니다.(루카 7,11-17 참조) 형제 자매들에게 어떻게 자비를 베풀어야 하는지 궁금하다면 예수님께서 하신 일을 묵상해야 합니다. "그러자 많은 군중이 다리저는 이들과 눈먼 이들과 다른 불구자들과 말못하는 이들, 그리고 또 다른 많은 이들을 데리고 예수님께 다가왔다. 그들을 그분 발치에 데려다 놓자 예수님께서는 그들을 고쳐 주셨다. 그리하여 말못하는 이들이 말을 하고 불구자들이 온전해지고 다리저는 이들이 제대로 걸으며 눈먼 이들이 보게 되자, 군중이 이를 보고 놀라 이스라엘의 하느님을 찬양하였다. 예수님께서 제자들을 가까이 불러 이르셨다. “저 군중이 가엾구나. 벌써 사흘 동안이나 내 곁에 머물렀는데 먹을 것이 없으니 말이다. 길에서 쓰러질지도 모르니 그들을 굶겨서 돌려보내고 싶지 않다.” 제자들이 예수님께 “이 광야에서 이렇게 많은 군중을 배불리 먹일 만한 빵을 어디서 구하겠습니까?” 하고 말하였다. 예수님께서 “너희에게 빵이 몇 개나 있느냐?” 하시자, 그들이 “일곱 개가 있고 물고기도 조금 있습니다.” 하고 대답하였다. 예수님께서는 군중에게 땅에 앉으라고 분부하셨다. 그리고 빵 일곱 개와 물고기들을 손에 들고 감사를 드리신 다음 떼어 제자들에게 주시니, 제자들이 군중에게 나누어 주었다. 사람들은 모두 배불리 먹었다." (마태15,30-37) Jesus Is Merciful MAY 28 Jesus, the Blessed Child of God, is merciful. Showing mercy is different from having pity. Pity connotes distance, even looking down upon. When a beggar asks for money and you give him something out of pity, you are not showing mercy. Mercy comes from a compassionate heart; it comes from a desire to be an equal. Jesus didn’t want to look down on us. He wanted to become one of us and feel deeply with us. When Jesus called the only son of the widow of Nain to life, he did so because he felt the deep sorrow of the grieving mother in his own heart (see Luke 7:11-17). Let us look at Jesus when we want to know how to show mercy to our brothers and sisters. Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel. Jesus called his followers to him and said, "I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way." They answered, "Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?" "How many loaves do you have?" Jesus asked. "Seven," they replied, "and a few small fish." He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people.
