헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 6월 19일 [(백) 지극히 거룩하신 그리스도의 성체 성혈 대축일] <성령님의 열매라는 것> The Fruit of the Spirit 하느님의 성령께서는 어떻게 우리를 통해 드러내실까요? 종종 우리는 증언한다는 게 하느님을 지키려고 목청 높이는 걸 뜻한다고 생각합니다. 이 생각 탓에 우리는 남들 눈치를 몹시 살피게 될 수 있는 겁니다. 남들과 얘기를 나누면서도 어디서 어떻게 하느님을 이야깃거리로 삼을 수 있을지 또 가족이나 친구, 이웃과 직장 동료들이 살아가면서 하느님께서 계시다는 걸 어떻게 하면 납득할 수 있을지 곰곰히 생각합니다. 하지만 이렇게 대놓고 선교에 애를 쓰는 건 종종 자신감이 모자란 마음에서 나오는 것이며 그래서 편가르기를 일으키기 십상인 겁니다. 하느님의 성령께서는 그 열매를 통해 가장 설득력 있게 드러내십니다. 바로 "성령의 열매는 사랑, 기쁨, 평화, 인내, 호의, 선의, 성실, 온유, 절제입니다"(갈라 5,22-23) 이 열매들은 스스로 목소리를 내는 겁니다. 그러므로 늘 "내가 어떻게 해야 성령님 안에서 자랄 수 있을까?"라고 묻는 게 "어떻게 하면 남들이 성령님을 믿게 할 수 있을까?"라는 물음보다는 늘 나은 겁니다. "나의 말과 나의 복음 선포는 지혜롭고 설득력 있는 언변으로 이루어진 것이 아니라, 성령의 힘을 드러내는 것으로 이루어졌습니다. 여러분의 믿음이 인간의 지혜가 아니라 하느님의 힘에 바탕을 두게 하려는 것이었습니다."(1코린2,4,5) The Fruit of the Spirit JUNE 19 How does the Spirit of God manifest itself through us? Often we think that to witness means to speak up in defense of God. This idea can make us very self-conscious. We wonder where and how we can make God the topic of our conversations and how to convince our families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues of God’s presence in their lives. But this explicit missionary endeavour often comes from an insecure heart and, therefore, easily creates divisions. The way God’s Spirit manifests itself most convincingly is through its fruits: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23). These fruits speak for themselves. It is therefore always better to raise the question “How can I grow in the Spirit?” than the question “How can I make others believe in the Spirit?” "My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power." - 1 Corinthians 2: 4,5 (NIV)   † 성부와 성자와 성령의 이름으로 아멘.
