헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 7월 7일 <세월이 약이 된다는  것> How Time Heals 종종 "세월이 약이지요"라는 말을 합니다. 이 말이 우리가 입은 상처를 결국은 잊어버리고 아무 일도 없었던 것처럼 살아갈 수 있다는 걸 뜻한다면 맞는 말은 아닙니다. 그건 짜장 낫는 게 아니라 그냥 현실을 모른체 하는 겁니다. 하지만 "세월이 약이다"는 말이 껄끄러워진 관계에서 신실한 자세를 통해 서로에게 상처를 준 방식을 더 깊이 이해할 수 있다는 걸 뜻한다면 그건 거의 진실에 가까운 말입니다. "세월이 약이다"란 말은 수동적으로 기다리는 게 아니라 우리의 고통과 더불어 능동적으로 할 일을 하면서 용서와 화해의 가능성을 믿는 걸 뜻하는 겁니다. "그래서 누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 그는 새로운 피조물입니다. 옛것은 지나갔습니다. 보십시오, 새것이 되었습니다. 이 모든 것은 그리스도를 통하여 우리를 당신과 화해하게 하시고 또 우리에게 화해의 직분을 맡기신 하느님에게서 옵니다. 곧 하느님께서는 그리스도 안에서 세상을 당신과 화해하게 하시면서, 사람들에게 그들의 잘못을 따지지 않으시고 우리에게 화해의 말씀을 맡기셨습니다."(2코린5,17-19) How Time Heals JULY 7 “Time heals,” people often say. This is not true when it means that we will eventually forget the wounds inflicted on us and be able to live on as if nothing happened. That is not really healing; it is simply ignoring reality. But when the expression “time heals” means that faithfulness in a difficult relationship can lead us to a deeper understanding of the ways we have hurt each other, then there is much truth in it. “Time heals” implies not passively waiting but actively working with our pain and trusting in the possibility of forgiveness and reconciliation. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.
