헨리 나웬 신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 7월 3일 (성 토마스 사도 축일) <기쁘게 집으로 맞이한다는 것> Welcoming Home 잃어버린 형제 자매들을 기쁘게 맞이하려면 어떻게 해야 하는건가요? 버선발로 달려가 얼싸안고 입을 맞추는 겁니다. 집에 있는 가장 좋은 옷을 입히고 귀한 손님처럼 모시는 겁니다. 진수성찬을 차려주고 친구들, 가족들을 잔치에 초대하는 겁니다. 무엇보다도 가장 중요한 건 구차한 변명이나 해명을 청하지 않고 오로지 그이들이 다시 우리와 함께 하게 되어 이루 다 말할 수 없을만큼 기쁘다는 걸 보여주는 겁니다. (루카15,20-24 참조). 그게 바로 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지께서 완전하신 것처럼 완전한 사람이 되는 겁니다. 자기만 옳다고 하거나 비난하고 심지어 호기심까지 보이는 한 점 내색도 없이 마음에서 말끔히 용서하는 겁니다. 이렇게 과거는 지워진 겁니다. 중요한 건 바로 지금 그리고 여기서 오로지 형제 자매들이 집으로 돌아온 것에 감사드리는 마음만으로 우리 자신을 가득 채우는 겁니다. "자, 주님께 돌아가자. -- 주님을 알자. 주님을 알도록 힘쓰자. 그분의 오심은 새벽처럼 어김없다. 그분께서는 우리에게 비처럼, 땅을 적시는 봄비처럼 오시리라."(호세6,1ㄱ,3) Welcoming Home JULY 3 How do we welcome home our lost brothers and sisters? By running out to them, embracing them, and kissing them. By clothing them with the best clothes we have and making them our honored guests. By offering them the best food and inviting friends and family for a party. And, most important of all, by not asking for excuses or explanations, only showing our immense joy that they are with us again. (See Luke 15:20-24). That is being perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect. It is forgiving from the heart without a trace of self-righteousness, recrimination, or even curiosity. The past is wiped out. What counts is the here and now, where all that fills our hearts is gratitude for the homecoming of our brothers and sisters. "Come, let us return to the Lord... Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him.
