헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 10월 30일 <가온에 있는 가장 연약한 이라는 것> The Weakest in the Center 몸에서 가장 소중한 지체는 이끌고 다루는 머리나 손이 아닙니다.  가장 중요한 지체는 드러내길 가장 꺼리는 지체입니다. 교회의 신비란 바로 그런 겁니다. 억압에서 자유로 부름받은 우리는 노인, 어린이, 신체장애인, 정신질환자, 굶주린 이, 앓는 이 등 우리 가운데서 가장 연약한 이들이 참 가온을 이룬다는 걸 깨달아야 합니다.  하여 사도 바오로 께서도 이렇게 말씀하신 겁니다 “우리는  몸의 지체 가운데에서 덜 소중하다고 생각하는 것들을 특별히 소중하게 감쌉니다”(1코린12,23). 하느님의 백성인 교회는 가난한 사람들이 교회의 가장 소중한 지체로 머룰 때에 비로소 우리 가운데 살아 계신 그리스도를 짜장 몸으로 드러낼 수 있는 겁니다.  하여 가난한 이들읉 보살핀다는 건 그리스도인이 베푸는 자선보다 휠씬 깊은 뜻이 있는 겁니다. 바로 그리스도의 몸이 되는 고갱이인 겁니다. "나는 지친 사람들에게 물을 실컷 마시게 하고 허약해진 사람들을 모두 배불리 먹이겠다.”(예레31,25) The Weakest in the Center OCTOBER 30 The most honored parts of the body are not the head or the hands, which lead and control. The most important parts are the least presentable parts. That’s the mystery of the Church. As a people called out of oppression to freedom, we must recognize that it is the weakest among us – the elderly, the small children, the handicapped, the mentally ill, the hungry and sick – who form the real center. Paul says, “It is the parts of the body which we consider least dignified, that we surround with the greatest dignity” (1 Corinthians 12:23). The Church as the people of God can truly embody the living Christ among us only when the poor remain its most treasured part. Care for the poor, therefore, is much more than Christian charity.
