헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 11월 4일 <우리를 이끄는 이들의 가난이라는 것> The Poverty of Our Leaders 가난이나 고통 그리고 아픔이란 우리 교회의 가장 밑바닥에 주로 또는 심지어 거기서만 일어나는 현실로 여기기 쉬운 겁니다. 하여 우리를 이끄는 이들이 가난하다고 여기는 경우는 거의 없는 겁니다.  하지만 교회의 높은 자리에 있는 이들에게도 크나큰 가난이나 깊은 외로움, 고통스러운 소외감이나 생생한 우울증 그리고 엄청난 정서적 고통이 똬리를 틀고 있는 겁니다. 우리는 용기를 내어 교회의 지도자들 즉 목사님, 신부님,  주교님, 교종님들의 고통을 인정하고 이분들도 약한 이들의 통공 안에서 받아들여야 하는 겁니다. 우리를 이끄는 이들의 권력이나 부유함 그리고 성공에 마음을 빼앗기지 않는다면 이내 그이들의 무력함, 기난함, 실패를 알아차릴 수 있으며 교회의 낮은 자리에 있는 이들에게 베풀기 바라는 똑같은 자비로 그이들에게도 거리낌 없이 손을 뻗을 수 있을 겁니다. 하느님께서 보시기에 맨 아래와 꼭데기 사이에는 거리가 없는 겁니다. 우리가 볼 때에도 거리두기를 해선 안 되는 겁니다. *주님, 너무 진노하지 마소서. 저희 죄악을 언제까지나 기억하지는 말아 주소서. 제발 굽어보소서. 저희는 모두 당신의 백성입니다."(이사64,8) The Poverty of Our Leaders NOVEMBER 4 There is a tendency to think about poverty, suffering, and pain as realities that happen primarily or even exclusively at the bottom of our Church. We seldom think of our leaders as poor. Still, there is great poverty, deep loneliness, painful isolation, real depression, and much emotional suffering at the top of our Church. We need the courage to acknowledge the suffering of the leaders of our Church – its ministers, priests, bishops, and popes – and include them in this fellowship of the weak. When we are not distracted by the power, wealth, and success of those who offer leadership, we will soon discover their powerlessness, poverty, and failures and feel free to reach out to them with the same compassion we want to give to those at the bottom. In God’s eyes there is no distance between bottom and top. There shouldn’t be in our eyes either. "Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
