그러고 나서 십사 년 뒤에 나는 바르나바와 함께 티토도 데리고 예루살렘에 다시 올라갔습니다.

▶ Then after fourteen years I again went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along also.
|

나는 계시를 받고 그리로 올라갔습니다. 그리고 내가 다른 민족들에게 선포하는 복음을 그곳 주요 인사들에게 따로 설명하였습니다. 내가 지금 하고 있는 일이나 전에 한 일이 허사가 되지 않게 하려는 것이었습니다.

▶ I went up in accord with a revelation, and I presented to them the gospel that I preach to the Gentiles - but privately to those of repute - so that I might not be running, or have run, in vain.

나와 함께 있던 티토는 그리스 사람이었는데도 할례를 강요받지 않았습니다.

▶ Moreover, not even Titus, who was with me, although he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised,

몰래 들어온 거짓 형제들 때문에 문제가 있기는 하였습니다. 그들은 우리를 다시 종으로 만들기 위하여, 우리가 그리스도 예수님 안에서 누리는 자유를 엿보려고 몰래 들어온 자들입니다.

▶ but because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who slipped in to spy on our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, that they might enslave us -

그러나 복음의 진리가 여러분과 함께 길이 머물도록 하려고, 우리는 그들에게 잠시도 양보하지 않았습니다.

▶ to them we did not submit even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might remain intact for you.

주요하다는 그 인사들 쪽에서는, ─ 그들이 한때 어떤 사람들이었든지 나에게는 아무 상관도 없습니다. 하느님께서는 사람을 차별하지 않으십니다. ─ 그 주요 인사들은 나에게 아무것도 따로 부과하지 않았습니다.

▶ But from those who were reputed to be important (what they once were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality) - those of repute made me add nothing.

그들은 오히려 베드로가 할례 받은 이들에게 복음을 전하는 일을 위임받았듯이, 내가 할례 받지 않은 이들에게 복음을 전하는 일을 위임받았다는 사실을 알게 되었습니다.

▶ On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter to the circumcised,

할례 받은 이들을 위하여 베드로에게 사도직을 수행하게 해 주신 분께서, 나에게도 다른 민족들을 위한 사도직을 수행하게 해 주셨기 때문입니다.

▶ for the one who worked in Peter for an apostolate to the circumcised worked also in me for the Gentiles,

그리고 교회의 기둥으로 여겨지는 야고보와 케파와 요한은 하느님께서 나에게 베푸신 은총을 인정하고, 친교의 표시로 나와 바르나바에게 오른손을 내밀어 악수하였습니다. 그리하여 우리는 다른 민족들에게 가고 그들은 할례 받은 이들에게 가기로 하였습니다.

▶ and when they recognized the grace bestowed upon me, James and Kephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas their right hands in partnership, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

다만 우리는 가난한 이들을 기억하기로 하였고, 나는 바로 그 일을 열심히 해 왔습니다.

▶ Only, we were to be mindful of the poor, which is the very thing I was eager to do.

▶ Peter's Inconsistency at Antioch
|

그런데 케파가 안티오키아에 왔을 때 나는 그를 정면으로 반대하였습니다. 그가 단죄받을 일을 하였기 때문입니다.

▶ And when Kephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he clearly was wrong.
|

|
야고보가 보낸 사람들이 오기 전에는 다른 민족들과 함께 음식을 먹더니, 그들이 오자 할례 받은 자들을 두려워한 나머지 몸을 사리며 다른 민족들과 거리를 두기 시작하였던 것입니다.

▶ For, until some people came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to draw back and separated himself, because he was afraid of the circumcised.
|

|
나머지 유다인들도 그와 함께 위선을 저지르고, 바르나바까지도 그들과 함께 위선에 빠졌습니다.

|
|
|
▶ And the rest of the Jews (also) acted hypocritically along with him, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy.
|

|
그러나 나는 그들이 복음의 진리에 따라 올바른 길을 걷지 않는 것을 보고, 모든 사람 앞에서 케파에게 말하였습니다. “당신은 유다인이면서도 유다인으로 살지 않고 이민족처럼 살면서, 어떻게 이민족들에게는 유다인처럼 살라고 강요할 수가 있다는 말입니까?”

▶ But when I saw that they were not on the right road in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Kephas in front of all, "If you, though a Jew, are living like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?"

|
|

|
우리는 본디 유다인으로, 죄인들인 이민족이 아닙니다.

▶ We, who are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles,
|
|

|
그러나 사람은 율법에 따른 행위가 아니라 예수 그리스도에 대한 믿음으로 의롭게 된다는 사실을 우리는 알고 있습니다. 그래서 우리는 율법에 따른 행위가 아니라 그리스도에 대한 믿음으로 의롭게 되려고 그리스도 예수님을 믿게 되었습니다. 어떠한 인간도 율법에 따른 행위로 의롭게 되지 않기 때문입니다.

▶ (yet) who know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

그런데 그리스도 안에서 의롭게 되려고 애쓰는 우리 자신도 죄인으로 드러난다면, 결국 그리스도께서 죄의 종이시라는 말입니까? 결코 그렇지 않습니다.

▶ But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves are found to be sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? Of course not!
|

내가 헐어 버린 것을 다시 세운다면 나 자신이 범법자임을 증명하는 것입니다.

▶ But if I am building up again those things that I tore down, then I show myself to be a transgressor.
|

|
나는 하느님을 위하여 살려고, 율법과 관련해서는 이미 율법으로 말미암아 죽었습니다. 나는 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔습니다.

▶ For through the law I died to the law, that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ;

|
이제는 내가 사는 것이 아니라 그리스도께서 내 안에 사시는 것입니다. 내가 지금 육신 안에서 사는 것은, 나를 사랑하시고 나를 위하여 당신 자신을 바치신 하느님의 아드님에 대한 믿음으로 사는 것입니다.

▶ yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me.

|
나는 하느님의 은총을 헛되게 하지 않습니다. 그런데 율법을 통하여 의로움이 온다면 그리스도께서 헛되이 돌아가신 것입니다.

▶ I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing.
|
