|
주님께서 원수들을 모두 물리치시고 사방으로부터 이스라엘을 평온하게 해 주신 뒤, 오랜 시일이 지났다. 여호수아는 늙고 나이가 많이 들었다.

▶ Many years later, after the LORD had given the Israelites rest from all their enemies round about them, and when Joshua was old and advanced in years,

그래서 여호수아는 온 이스라엘, 곧 원로들과 우두머리들과 판관들과 관리들을 불러 말하였다. “나는 이제 늙고 나이가 많이 들었다.

|
▶ he summoned all Israel (including their elders, leaders, judges and officers) and said to them: "I am old and advanced in years.

너희는 주 너희 하느님께서 너희를 위하여 이 모든 민족들에게 하신 것을 다 보았다. 주 너희 하느님께서는 친히 너희를 위하여 싸워 주신 것이다.

|
|
|
▶ You have seen all that the LORD, your God, has done for you against all these nations; for it has been the LORD, your God, himself who fought for you.
|

|
보아라, 내가 요르단에서 해 지는 쪽 큰 바다까지, 이미 멸망시킨 모든 민족들과 아직도 남아 있는 이 모든 민족들을 너희 지파들에게 상속 재산으로 나누어 주었다.

▶ Bear in mind that I have apportioned among your tribes as their heritage the nations that survive (as well as those I destroyed) between the Jordan and the Great Sea in the west.

주 너희 하느님께서는 친히 그들을 너희에게서 몰아내시고 너희 앞에서 내쫓으실 것이다. 그러면 너희는 주 너희 하느님께서 이르신 대로 이 땅을 차지하게 될 것이다.

|
|
|
▶ The LORD, your God, will drive them out and dislodge them at your approach, so that you will take possession of their land as the LORD, your God, promised you.

|
그러므로 너희는 아주 굳세어져서 모세의 율법서에 쓰여 있는 모든 것을 명심하여 실천하고, 거기에서 오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 벗어나는 일이 없도록 하여라.

|
|
▶ Therefore strive hard to observe and carry out all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, not straying from it in any way,

|
그래서 너희 곁에 남아 있는 이 민족들과 어울리는 일이 없도록 하여라. 그들 신들의 이름을 찬미하여 부르거나 그 이름으로 맹세해서도 안 되고, 그 신들을 섬기거나 그들에게 경배해서도 안 된다.

▶ or mingling with these nations while they survive among you. You must not invoke their gods, or swear by them, or serve them, or worship them,

너희는 오늘날까지 해 온 대로 오직 주 너희 하느님께만 매달려라.

|
|
▶ but you must remain loyal to the LORD, your God, as you have been to this day.
|

|
주님께서는 크고 강한 민족들을 너희 앞에서 쫓아내 주셨다. 그래서 오늘날까지 아무도 너희에게 맞서지 못하였던 것이다.

|
|
▶ At your approach the LORD has driven out large and strong nations, and to this day no one has withstood you.
|

|
주 너희 하느님께서 이르신 대로 너희를 위하여 친히 싸워 주셨기 때문에, 너희 가운데에서 한 사람이 천 명을 쫓을 수 있었다.

|
|
▶ One of you puts to flight a thousand, because it is the LORD, your God, himself who fights for you, as he promised you.
|

|
그러니 너희는 깊이 명심하여 주 너희 하느님을 사랑해야 한다.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ Take great care, however, to love the LORD, your God.
|
|

|
그러나 너희가 돌아서서, 너희 곁에 남아 있는 이 나머지 민족들에게 달라붙어 그들과 혼인 관계를 맺고서 그들과 어울리고 그들이 너희와 어울리면,

|
▶ For if you ever abandon him and ally yourselves with the remnant of these nations while they survive among you, by intermarrying and intermingling with them,

|
주 너희 하느님께서 다시는 너희 앞에서 이 민족들을 쫓아내지 않으시리라는 것을 분명히 알아 두어라. 그러면 그들이 너희에게 그물과 올가미가 되고 너희 옆구리에 채찍이 되고 눈에 가시가 되어, 너희는 마침내 주 너희 하느님께서 주신 이 좋은 땅에서 멸망하고 말 것이다.

|
▶ know for certain that the LORD, your God, will no longer drive these nations out of your way. Instead they will be a snare and a trap for you, a scourge for your sides and thorns for your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the LORD, your God, has given you.

|
보라, 오늘 나는 세상 모든 사람이 가는 길을 간다. 주 너희 하느님께서 너희를 두고 이르신 그 모든 좋은 말씀 가운데에서 하나도 빠지지 않고 이루어진 것을, 너희는 온 마음과 온 정신으로 잘 알고 있다. 그 말씀이 하나도 빠지지 않고 너희에게 다 이루어졌다.

▶ "Today, as you see, I am going the way of all men. So now acknowledge with your whole heart and soul that not one of all the promises the LORD, your God, made to you has remained unfulfilled. Every promise has been fulfilled for you, with not one single exception.

그러나 주 너희 하느님께서 너희에게 이르신 그 모든 좋은 말씀이 너희에게 다 이루어진 것처럼, 주님께서는 그 모든 나쁜 말씀도 너희에게 이루셔서, 마침내 너희에게 주신 이 좋은 땅에서 너희를 없애 버리실 수도 있다.

▶ But just as every promise the LORD, your God, made to you has been fulfilled for you, so will he fulfill every threat, even so far as to exterminate you from this good land which the LORD, your God, has given you.

그러므로 주 너희 하느님께서 명령하신 계약을 너희가 어기고 다른 신들에게 가서 그들을 섬기고 경배하면, 주님의 분노가 너희에게 타올라, 너희는 주님께서 주신 이 좋은 땅에서 바로 멸망하게 될 것이다.”

▶ If you transgress the covenant of the LORD, your God, which he enjoined on you, serve other gods and worship them, the anger of the LORD will flare up against you and you will quickly perish from the good land which he has given you."
