그 뒤에 나는 큰 권한을 가진 다른 천사가 하늘에서 내려오는 것을 보았는데, 그의 광채로 땅이 환해졌습니다.

▶ After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth became illumined by his splendor.

그가 힘찬 소리로 외쳤습니다. “무너졌다, 무너졌다, 대바빌론이! 바빌론이 마귀들의 거처가 되고 온갖 더러운 영들의 소굴, 온갖 더러운 새들의 소굴, 더럽고 미움 받는 온갖 짐승들의 소굴이 되고 말았다.

▶ He cried out in a mighty voice: "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great. She has become a haunt for demons. She is a cage for every unclean spirit, a cage for every unclean bird, (a cage for every unclean) and disgusting (beast).

그 여자의 난잡한 불륜의 술을 모든 민족들이 마시고 땅의 임금들이 그 여자와 불륜을 저질렀으며 땅의 상인들이 그 여자의 사치 덕분에 부자가 되었기 때문이다.”

▶ For all the nations have drunk the wine of her licentious passion. The kings of the earth had intercourse with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her drive for luxury."

나는 또 하늘에서 울려오는 다른 목소리를 들었습니다. “내 백성아, 그 여자에게서 나와라. 그리하여 그 여자의 죄악에 동참하지 말고 그 여자가 당하는 재앙을 입지 마라.

▶ Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Depart from her, my people, so as not to take part in her sins and receive a share in her plagues,

그 여자의 죄악들이 하늘까지 닿아 하느님께서 그 여자의 불의한 짓들을 기억하셨다.

▶ for her sins are piled up to the sky, and God remembers her crimes.
|
|

|
그 여자가 남에게 한 것처럼 되갚아 주어라. 그 여자의 행실을 갑절로 갚아 주고 그 여자가 남에게 부어 준 잔에 갑절로 독한 술을 부어 주어라.

|
▶ Pay her back as she has paid others. Pay her back double for her deeds. Into her cup pour double what she poured.

그 여자가 영화와 사치를 누린 그만큼 고통과 슬픔을 그 여자에게 안겨 주어라. 그 여자가 마음속으로 ‘나는 여왕 자리에 앉아 있는 몸, 과부가 아니니 슬픔도 결코 맛보지 않을 것이다.’ 하고 말하기 때문이다.

▶ To the measure of her boasting and wantonness repay her in torment and grief; for she said to herself, 'I sit enthroned as queen; I am no widow, and I will never know grief.'

그러므로 하루 사이에 여러 재앙이, 흑사병과 슬픔과 굶주림이 그 여자에게 닥칠 것이며 마침내 그 여자는 불에 타 버릴 것이다. 그 여자를 심판하시는 주 하느님은 큰 능력을 지니신 분이시다.”

▶ Therefore, her plagues will come in one day, pestilence, grief, and famine; she will be consumed by fire. For mighty is the Lord God who judges her."

“그 여자와 함께 불륜을 저지르며 사치를 부린 땅의 임금들은 그 여자를 태우는 불의 연기를 보고 울며 가슴을 칠 것이다.

▶ The kings of the earth who had intercourse with her in their wantonness will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her pyre.

|
그들은 그 여자가 받는 고통이 두려워 멀찍이 서서 말할 것이다. ‘불행하여라, 불행하여라, 저 큰 도성! 강한 도성 바빌론아 삽시간에 너에게 심판이 닥쳤구나.’

|
▶ They will keep their distance for fear of the torment inflicted on her, and they will say: "Alas, alas, great city, Babylon, mighty city. In one hour your judgment has come."

|
땅의 상인들도 그 여자 때문에 슬피 울 것이다. 더 이상 자기들의 상품을 살 사람이 없기 때문이다.

▶ The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn for her, because there will be no more markets for their cargo:

그 상품은 금, 은, 보석, 진주, 고운 아마포, 자주색 옷감, 비단, 진홍색 옷감, 온갖 향나무, 온갖 상아 공예품, 그리고 매우 값진 나무와 구리와 쇠와 대리석으로 만든 물품,

▶ their cargo of gold, silver, precious stones, and pearls; fine linen, purple silk, and scarlet cloth; fragrant wood of every kind, all articles of ivory and all articles of the most expensive wood, bronze, iron, and marble;

또 계피, 향료, 향, 몰약, 유향, 포도주, 올리브 기름, 고운 밀가루, 밀, 소, 양, 말, 마차, 노예, 포로 따위다.

|
▶ cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, and frankincense; wine, olive oil, fine flour, and wheat; cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human beings.

네 마음이 탐내던 열매가 너에게서 사라지고 온갖 화려하고 찬란한 것들이 너에게서 없어져 다시는 그것들을 찾아보지 못할 것이다.

▶ "The fruit you craved has left you. All your luxury and splendor are gone, never again will one find them."

이러한 물품을 팔아 그 여자 덕분에 부자가 된 상인들은 그 여자가 받는 고통이 두려워 멀찍이 서서 슬피 울며

|
▶ The merchants who deal in these goods, who grew rich from her, will keep their distance for fear of the torment inflicted on her. Weeping and mourning,

이렇게 말할 것이다. ‘불행하여라, 불행하여라, 저 큰 도성! 고운 아마포 옷, 자주색과 진홍색 옷을 입고 금과 보석과 진주로 치장했었는데

▶ they cry out: "Alas, alas, great city, wearing fine linen, purple and scarlet, adorned (in) gold, precious stones, and pearls.

그토록 많던 재물이 삽시간에 사라져 버렸구나.’ 모든 선장과 선객과 선원과 바다에서 일하는 사람들도 다 멀찍이 서서,

▶ In one hour this great wealth has been ruined." Every captain of a ship, every traveler at sea, sailors, and seafaring merchants stood at a distance

그 도성을 태우는 불의 연기를 보며 ‘저 큰 도성 같은 곳이 또 어디 있으랴?’ 하고 외쳤다.

▶ and cried out when they saw the smoke of her pyre, "What city could compare with the great city?"

또 머리에 먼지를 뿌리고 슬피 울며 부르짖었다. ‘불행하여라, 불행하여라, 저 큰 도성! 바다에 배를 가진 사람들이 모두 그 재화 덕분에 부자가 되었건만 삽시간에 폐허로 변해 버렸구나.’

▶ They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and mourning: "Alas, alas, great city, in which all who had ships at sea grew rich from her wealth. In one hour she has been ruined.

‘하늘아, 성도들과 사도들과 예언자들아 저 도성을 보고 즐거워하여라. 하느님께서 너희를 위하여 저 도성에 심판을 내리셨다.’”

▶ Rejoice over her, heaven, you holy ones, apostles, and prophets. For God has judged your case against her."

또 큰 능력을 지닌 한 천사가 맷돌처럼 큰 돌을 들어 바다에 던지며 말하였습니다. “큰 도성 바빌론이 이처럼 세차게 던져질 터이니 다시는 그 모습을 찾아볼 수 없을 것이다.

▶ A mighty angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone and threw it into the sea and said: "With such force will Babylon the great city be thrown down, and will never be found again.

수금 타는 이들과 노래 부르는 이들, 피리 부는 이들과 나팔 부는 이들의 소리가 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않고 어떠한 기술을 가진 장인도 다시는 네 안에서 찾아볼 수 없으며 맷돌 소리도 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이다.

▶ No melodies of harpists and musicians, flutists and trumpeters, will ever be heard in you again. No craftsmen in any trade will ever be found in you again. No sound of the millstone will ever be heard in you again.

등불의 빛도 다시는 네 안에서 비치지 않고 신랑과 신부의 목소리도 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이다. 너의 상인들이 땅의 세력가였기 때문이며 모든 민족들이 너의 마술에 속아 넘어갔기 때문이다.

▶ No light from a lamp will ever be seen in you again. No voices of bride and groom will ever be heard in you again. Because your merchants were the great ones of the world, all nations were led astray by your magic potion.

예언자들과 성도들과 땅에서 살해된 모든 사람의 피가 바로 그 도성에서 드러났다.”
