▶ Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt before your very eyes to Pharaoh and all his servants and to all his land;

그것은 너희가 두 눈으로 본 그 큰 시험과 표징과 큰 기적들이다.

▶ the great testings your own eyes have seen, and those great signs and wonders.
|
|

|
그러나 주님께서는 오늘날까지 너희에게 깨닫는 마음과 보는 눈과 듣는 귀를 주지 않으셨다.

|
|
|
|
▶ But not even at the present day has the LORD yet given you a mind to understand, or eyes to see, or ears to hear.
|

주님께서는 너희를 사십 년 동안 광야에서 인도하셨다. 그동안 너희 몸에 걸친 옷들이 해진 적이 없고, 너희 발에 신은 신들이 떨어진 적이 없다.

▶ 'I led you for forty years in the desert. Your clothes did not fall from you in tatters nor your sandals from your feet;

또 너희는 빵도 먹지 않았고 포도주나 독주도 마시지 않았다. 그것은 주님께서 주 너희 하느님이라는 것을 너희가 알게 하시려는 것이었다.

|
|
▶ bread was not your food, nor wine or beer your drink. Thus you should know that I, the LORD, am your God.

그리고 너희가 이곳에 다다랐을 때, 헤스본 임금 시혼과 바산 임금 옥이 우리와 맞서 싸우러 나왔지만, 우리는 그들을 쳐부수었다.

▶ When we came to this place, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, came out to engage us in battle, but we defeated them
|

우리는 그들의 땅을 빼앗아, 르우벤인들과 가드인들, 그리고 므나쎄 반쪽 지파에게 그 땅을 상속 재산으로 주었다.

▶ and took over their land, which we then gave as a heritage to the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.

그러므로 너희는 이 계약의 말씀들을 지키고 실천해야 한다. 그래야 너희가 하는 모든 일이 잘될 것이다.

▶ Keep the terms of this covenant, therefore, and fulfill them, that you may succeed in whatever you do.

너희는 오늘 모두 주 너희 하느님 앞에 나와 섰다. 너희 지파의 우두머리들과 원로들과 관리들과 이스라엘의 모든 사람,

▶ "You are all now standing before the LORD, your God - your chiefs and judges, your elders and officials, and all of the men of Israel,

너희의 어린것들과 아내들, 그리고 장작을 패 주고 물을 길어 주는 이에 이르기까지 너희 진영에 있는 이방인들이 다 나와 섰다.

|
▶ together with your wives and children and the aliens who live in your camp, down to those who hew wood and draw water for you -

이는 주 너희 하느님께서 오늘 너희와 맺으시는 주 너희 하느님의 계약과 맹세에 너희가 참여하려는 것이다.

|
▶ that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD, your God, which he concluded with you today under this sanction of a curse;

|
또한 주님께서 너희에게 이르신 대로, 너희의 조상 아브라함과 이사악과 야곱에게 맹세하신 대로, 너희를 당신의 백성으로 삼으시고 너희의 하느님이 되시려는 것이다.

|
▶ so that he may now establish you as his people and he may be your God, as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

|
나는 이 계약과 이 맹세를 너희하고만 맺는 것이 아니고,

|
|
|
|
▶ But it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant, under this sanction of a curse;
|
|

|
오늘 주 우리 하느님 앞에서 우리와 함께 여기에 서 있는 사람들과 오늘 우리와 함께 여기에 있지 않은 사람들과도 맺는다.

|
|
|
▶ it is just as much with those who are not here among us today as it is with those of us who are now here present before the LORD, our God.
|

|
우리가 이집트 땅에서 어떻게 살았는지, 또 우리가 민족들 가운데를 어떻게 지나왔는지 너희는 잘 알고 있다.

▶ "You know in what surroundings we lived in the land of Egypt and what we passed by in the nations we traversed,

|
▶ and you saw the loathsome idols of wood and stone, of gold and silver, that they possess.

|
너희 가운데에는 남자든 여자든, 씨족이든 지파든, 오늘 주 우리 하느님에게서 마음이 돌아서서, 저 민족들의 신들을 섬기러 가는 자가 있어서는 안 된다. 너희 가운데에는 이렇게 독이 든 쓴흰쑥 열매를 맺는 뿌리가 있어서는 안 된다.

▶ Let there be, then, no man or woman, no clan or tribe among you, who would now turn away their hearts from the LORD, our God, to go and serve these pagan gods! Let there be no root that would bear such poison and wormwood among you.

어떤 사람이 이 맹세의 말씀들을 듣고서도, 제 마음속으로 자신을 부추기며, ‘내가 마음대로 고집하며 살아, 젖은 것이든 마른 것이든 모조리 휩쓸어 간다 하더라도, 나에게는 아무 일이 없을 것이다.’ 한다면,

▶ If any such person, upon hearing the words of this curse, should beguile himself into thinking that he can safely persist in his stubbornness of heart, as though to sweep away both the watered soil and the parched ground,

주님께서 그를 용서하려 하지 않으실 것이다. 오히려 그에 대한 주님의 진노와 질투가 타올라 이 책에 쓰인 모든 저주가 그 위에 내리고, 주님께서 그의 이름을 하늘 아래에서 지워 버리실 것이다.

▶ the LORD will never consent to pardon him. Instead, the LORD'S wrath and jealousy will flare up against that man, and every curse mentioned in this book will alight on him. The LORD will blot out his name from under the heavens

주님께서는 그를 이스라엘의 모든 지파에서 떼어 내시어, 이 율법서에 쓰인 계약의 저주대로 그에게 재앙을 내리실 것이다.

|
▶ and will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for doom, in keeping with all the curses of the covenant inscribed in this book of the law.

|
너희 뒤에 일어날 다음 세대의 자손들과 먼 땅에서 올 외국인이, 이 땅의 재난과 주님께서 이 땅을 병들게 하신 질병들을 보고서 이렇게 말할 것이다.

▶ "Future generations, your own descendants who will rise up after you, as well as the foreigners who will come here from far-off lands, when they see the calamities of this land and the ills with which the LORD has smitten it -

|
‘온 땅이 유황과 소금으로 불타 버려 씨를 뿌리지도 못하고 뿌린 씨가 나오지도 못하는구나. 이곳은 어떤 풀도 돋아나지 않아, 마치 주님께서 당신의 분노와 진노로 멸망시키신 소돔과 고모라와 아드마와 츠보임의 처지와 같구나.’

▶ all its soil being nothing but sulphur and salt, a burnt-out waste, unsown and unfruitful, without a blade of grass, destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his furious wrath -

|
또 모든 민족들이 ‘왜 주님께서 이 땅에 이렇게 하셨는가? 타오르는 이 큰 분노는 어찌 된 것인가?’ 하고 물으면,

|
|
|
|
▶ they and all the nations will ask, 'Why has the LORD dealt thus with this land? Why this fierce outburst of wrath?'

|
사람들이 이렇게 대답할 것이다. ‘그들이 주 저희 조상들의 하느님께서 자기들을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내실 때에 자기들과 맺으신 그분의 계약을 저버렸기 때문이다.

|
|
▶ And the answer will be, 'Because they forsook the covenant which the LORD, the God of their fathers, had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,

|
그들은 자기들이 알지도 못하고, 주님께서 허락하지도 않으신 다른 신들에게 가서 그것들을 섬기고 경배하였다.

▶ and they went and served other gods and adored them, gods whom they did not know and whom he had not let fall to their lot:

그래서 이 땅을 거슬러 주님의 진노가 타올라, 이 책에 쓰인 모든 저주가 그 위에 내렸다.

|
▶ that is why the LORD was angry with this land and brought on it all the imprecations listed in this book;

|
주님께서 분노하시고 진노하시며 크게 격분하셔서 그들을 제 땅에서 뽑아, 오늘 이처럼 다른 나라로 쫓아 버리신 것이다.’

|
|
▶ in his furious wrath and tremendous anger the LORD uprooted them from their soil and cast them out into a strange land, where they are today.'

|
감추어진 것은 주 우리 하느님의 것이지만, 드러난 것은 영원토록 우리와 우리 자손들의 것이니, 우리는 이 율법의 말씀을 실천해야 한다.”

▶ (Both what is still hidden and what has already been revealed concern us and our descendants forever, that we may carry out all the words of this law.)
