골짜기의 매끈한 돌들이 너의 몫 바로 그것들이 너의 차지다. 그것들에게 너는 술을 부어 바치고 곡식 제물을 올렸다. 내가 이런 것들로 만족해야 하겠느냐?

너는 문과 문설주 뒤에 너의 기념상을 모셔 놓았다. 정녕 너는 나를 버리고서 옷을 벗고 네 잠자리로 올라가 자리를 넓게 폈다. 너는 네가 잠자리를 같이하고 싶어 하는 자들과 약조를 맺고 그 손을 바라보았다.

누가 무섭고 두렵기에 너는 거짓말을 하고 나를 생각도 않으며 네 마음에 두지도 않느냐? 말없이 눈을 감아 준 내가 아니냐? 그랬더니 네가 나를 경외하지 않는구나.

네가 부르짖을 때 네가 모은 우상들이 너를 구하게 해 보아라. 바람이 그것들을 모두 쓸어 가 버리고 입김이 앗아 가 버리리라. 그러나 나에게 피신하는 자는 땅을 상속받고 나의 거룩한 산을 차지하리라.

드높고 뛰어나신 분, 영원히 좌정하여 계신 분 그 이름 ‘거룩하신 분’께서 정녕 이렇게 말씀하신다. “나는 드높고 거룩한 곳에 좌정하여 있지만 겸손한 이들의 넋을 되살리고 뉘우치는 이들의 마음을 되살리려고 뉘우치는 이들과 겸손한 이들과 함께 있다.

나는 끝끝내 따지지 않고 끝까지 화를 내지 않는다. 넋들이, 내가 만든 혼들이 내 앞에서 힘을 잃을 것이기 때문이다.
