보기 위해 안간힘을 쓰기

Straining to "See"

나는 동쪽 하늘에 내 눈을 고정하고 있습니다. 베들레헴 동굴로 우리 선조들을 인도했던 그 기적의 별을 발견하기 위하여...내 시선을 더욱 고정할수록 내 시야는 점점 더 어두워져만 갑니다. 내가 찾고자 더욱 열을 올리면 나를 감싸는 어둠은 더욱 깊어만 집니다. 나는 낮이나 밤이나 혼자이고 나를 밝히려 비춰지는 어떤 한줄기 빛도 없습니다.

I keep my eyes fixed on the East...to discover that miraculous star which guided our forebears to the Grotto of Bethlehem....The more I fix my gaze the dimmer my sight becomes;...the more ardent my search, the deeper the darkness which envelops me. I am alone by day by night and no ray of light comes through to enlighten me.
