그리스도께서 제정하신 천상제사는 참으로 그분이 남겨 주신 신약의 풍요한 유산입니다. 이 유산은 십자가에 못 박히기 위해 당신을 넘겨주시던 날 밤 당신이 우리 가운데 현존하신다는 증거로서 남겨주신 것입니다. 이것은 우리가 이 세상을 떠나 그리스도께 도달할 때까지 가는 길에 있어서 우리를 지탱하고 부양해 주는 나그네 양식입니다. 주님은 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다.“만일 너희가 내 살을 먹고 또 내 피를 마시지 않으면 너희 안에 생명을 간직하지 못할 것이다”요한6,53 

Sacrificium caeleste a Christo institutum vere est hereditarium munus testamenti eius novi, quod novis ea nocte, quae tradebatur crucifigendus, tamquam pignus suae praesentiae dereliquit. Hoc illud est viaticum nostri itineris, quo in hac via vitae alimur ac nutrimur, donec ad ipsum pergamus de hoc saeculo recedentes; unde dicebat idem Dominus: Nisi manducaveritis meam carnem, et biberitis meum sanguinem, non habebitis vitam in vobis ipsis.

The heavenly sacrifice, instituted by Christ, is the most gracious legacy of his new covenant. On the night he was delivered up to be crucified he left us this gift as a pledge of his abiding presence.  This sacrifice is our sustenance on life’s journey; by it we are nourished and supported along the road of life until we depart from this world and make our way to the Lord.  For this reason he addressed these words to us: Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you will not have life in you.
