이 세례는 가르침을 받아들이는 이들의 마음이 밝아 오기 때문에 ‘조명’이라고 합니다. 이 조명을 받은 사람은 또 씻음을 받는 것입니다. 본시오 빌라도 치하에 십자가에 못 박히신 예수 그리스도의 이름과 예언자들을 통하여 예수님에 관한 모든 것을 예언하신 성령의 이름으로 조명을 빋고 씻음을 받습니다.

Vocatur autem lavacrum illud illuminatio, eo quod mente illuminentur qui haec discunt. Sed et in nomine Iesu Christi sub Pontio Pilato crucifixi, et in nomine Spiritus Sancti, qui per prophetas omnia ad Iesum spectantia praenuntiavit, is qui illuminatur.  

This baptism is called “illumination” because of the mental enlightenment that is experienced by those who learn these things. The person receiving this enlightenment is also baptised in the name of Jesus Christ, who was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and in the name of the Holy Spirit, who through the prophets foretold everything concerning Jesus.
