포도 줄기가 땅에 자리잡으면 때가 이를 때 열매를 맺으며, 땅에 떨어져 죽은 한 알의 밀알도 모든 만물을 떠받들고 계시는 하느님의 영의 힘에 의해 생명으로 되살아나 백배의 열매를 맺습니다. 그리고 나서 사람의 수고로 사람이 사용할 수 있는 것이고 그것에다 주님의 말씀으로 감사의 기도를 바칠 때 그리스도의 몸과 피인 감사제가 됩니다. 그래서 우리 몸이 성체와 성혈로 양육된다면 땅에 묻혀 부패한 후 때가 이르러 하느님의 말씀께서 아버지 하느님의 영광을 위하여 그 몸에 생명을 주실 때 부활할 것입니다. 그렇게 하여 연약함 가운데 당신의 권능이 완전해지는 하느님께서는 멸하고야 말 것에 불사 불멸을 베푸시고 부패하고야 말 것에 부패하지 않는 능력을 주십니다.

Et quenadmodum ingnum vitis, depositum in terram, suo fructificat tempore, et granum triciti, decidens in terram et dissolutum, multiplex surgit per Spiritum Dei qui continet omnia, quae deinde per sapientiam inusum hominis veniut, et percipientia vervum Dei eucharistia fiunt, quod est corpus et sanguis Christi; sic et nostra corpora, ex ea nutrita et reposita in terram et resoluta in ea, resugent in suo tempore. Verbo Dei resurrectionem eis donante, in gloriam Dei Patris, qui huic mortali immortalitatem circumdat, et corruptibili incorruptalem gratuito donat, quoniam virtus dei infirmitate perficitur.

The slip of a vine planted in the ground bears fruit at the proper time. The grain of wheat falls into the ground and decays only to be raised up again and multiplied by the Spirit of God who sustains all things. The Wisdom of God places these things at the service of man and when they receive God’s word they become the eucharist, which is the body and blood of Christ. In the same way our bodies, which have been nourished by the eucharist, will be buried in the earth and will decay, but they will rise again at the appointed time, for the Word of God will raise them up to the glory of God the Father. Then the Father will clothe our mortal nature in immortality and freely endow our corruptible nature with incorruptibility, for God’s power is shown most perfectly in weakness.
