 프란치스코 교황님께서 8월 14-18일 기간 동안, 아시안 가톨릭 청년 페스티발에 참석하시기 위해 한국을 방문하실 것이라고 바티칸이 밝혔습니다. 이 여행은 프란치스코 교황님의 5월에 있을 요르단, 이스라엘, 팔레스타인 지역의 짧은 방문에 이은 올해의 두번째 여행이 될 것이라고 월요일 밝혔습니다. 프란치스코 교황님께서는 지난 여름 첫 외국 방문지 였던 브라질 여행에서 돌아오시던 때에, 베네딕토 16세께서 2006년 터키로의 짧은 여행를 제외하고는 아시아 대륙 방문을 실행하시기 못하셨기 때문에 당신께서 아시아 방문을 원하신다고 기자에게 말씀하셨습니다. 이 방문은 20년 만에 처음으로 이루어지는 교황성하의 한반도 방문이 될 것입니다. 교황 요한 바오로 2세의 1994(*1984년을 기자가 착각한 듯)년의 방한 때에는 103위의 한국 순교자들의 성인 시성식이 있었습니다. 프란치스코 교황님께서는 이번 방문 동안에 124위의 복자 시성을 거행하실 것으로 예상됩니다. VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican says Pope Francis will travel to South Korea from Aug. 14-18 to participate in an Asian Catholic youth festival. The trip announced Monday will be Francis' second foreign visit this year after his brief visit to Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories in May. Francis told reporters last summer en route home from his first foreign trip to Brazil that he wanted to go to Asia because Pope Benedict XVI never managed to get to the continent, aside from a quick trip to Turkey in 2006. The visit will mark the first time in 20 years that a pope has visited the peninsula. (Vatican Radio) It’s official: Pope Francis is going to South Korea. A statement from the Press Office of the Holy See on Monday confirmed that the Holy Father will be traveling to the Republic of Korea from August 14th to August 18th. “Welcoming the invitation from the President of the Republic and the Korean bishops,” the statement reads, “His Holiness Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Voyage to the Republic of Korea from 14 to 18 August 2014, on the occasion of the Sixth Asian Youth Day, to be held in the diocese of Daejeon.” No further details of the trip were immediately available, though the Holy Father has received invitations from, and spoken of his desire to visit a number of countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Sri Lanka.
