Fruits That Grow in Vulnerability

성공한다는 것과 열매를 가멸지게 맺는다는 것에는 엄청난 차이가 있습니다. 성공은 역량, 관리력, 좋은 평판에서 비롯됩니다. 성공하는 이에게는 값어치있는 것를 만들어 그 발전을 꾸준히 관리하여 대량으로 이용할 수 있게 하는 활력이 있습니다. 성공하면 많은 보상도 따르고 종종 이름도 떨칩니다. 하지만 열매는 연약함과 취약함에서 맺어지는 겁니다. 그리고 열매는 알알이 둘도 없는 겁니다. 아기는 취약함 속에서 잉태되는 열매이고, 공동체는 서로의 상심을 나누면서 이루는 열매이며, 친밀함은 서로의 상처를 어루만지면서 자라는 열매입니다. 우리에게 참 기쁨을 주는 건 성공하는 게 아니라 가멸지게 열매 맺는 것임을 서로 일깨워 줍시다.

There is a great difference between successfulness and fruitfulness. Success comes from strength, control, and respectability. A successful person has the energy to create something, to keep control over its development, and to make it available in large quantities. Success brings many rewards and often fame. Fruits, however, come from weakness and vulnerability. And fruits are unique. A child is the fruit conceived in vulnerability, community is the fruit born through shared brokenness, and intimacy is the fruit that grows through touching one another’s wounds. Let’s remind one another that what brings us true joy is not successfulness but fruitfulness.
