헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오 ! 그리고 늘 ! 2월 14일 <우리 앞에 있는 아름다움(美)과 선함(善)을 보는 것> Seeing the Beauty and Goodness in Front of Us 원하는 보물을 찾으려면 멀리 가지 않아도 됩니다. 아름다움과 선함은 바로 우리가 있는 이 자리에 있습니다.  그리고 우리 가까이 있는 그것들을 볼 수 있을 때 비로소 여기 저기 머나 먼 곳에 가서도 그 아름다움과 선함을 알아 볼  수 있는 겁니다. 즐거움을 주는 나무와 꽃들, 놀라움을 자아내는 그림과 조각품들이 있습니다. 무엇보다도 웃음을 띠고 장난을 하며, 친절하고 상냥한 이들이 있습니다. 이 모든 게 우리 주위에 있어 알아 보기만 하면 덤처럼 고맙게 받을 수 있는 겁니다. 우리는 에워싸고 있는 이 모든 아름다움과 선함을 모아 일을 벌이는 데 도움이 되는 정보로 쓰고 싶은 생각에 끌립니다. 하지만 그런다면 그 아름다움과 선함을 즐길 수 없게 됩니다. 또 이내 원기를되찾으려면 쉬는 게 필요함을 깨닫게 되는 겁니다. 우리 앞에 있는 아름다움과 선함을 먼저 알아보고 나서 여기 저기에 있는 걸 찾아 나서야 하는 겁니다. Seeing the Beauty and Goodness in Front of Us FEBRUARY 14 We don’t have to go far to find the treasure we are seeking. There is beauty and goodness right where we are. And only when we can see the beauty and goodness that are close by can we recognize beauty and goodness on our travels far and wide. There are trees and flowers to enjoy, paintings and sculptures to admire; most of all there are people who smile, play, and show kindness and gentleness. They are all around us, to be recognized as free gifts to receive in gratitude. Our temptation is to collect all the beauty and goodness surrounding us as helpful information we can use for our projects. But then we cannot enjoy it, and we soon find that we need a vacation to restore ourselves. Let’s try to see the beauty and goodness in front of us before we go elsewhere to look for it.   † 성부와 성자와 성령의 이름으로 아멘.
