헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오 ! 그리고 늘 ! 2월 27일 [(녹) 연중 제8주일] <하느님께서 머무실 곳을 마련한다는 것> Creating Space for God 사도직의 뒷면에는 수련이 있습니다. 수련이 없는 사도직은 연습도 하지 않고  마라톤에 나서는 것과 진배없습니다. 사도직이 없는 수련은 늘상 마라톤 연습은 하면서 경기에는 전혀 참가하지 않는 것과 같습니다. 하지만 영성살이에서 하는 수련은 운동에서 하는 훈련과 사뭇 다르다는 걸 깨닫는 게 아주 중요합니다. 운동에서 하는 훈련은 집중적으로 노력하여 몸의 기능을 완벽하게 익혀서 마음먹은 대로 잘 따를 수 있게 하는 겁니다. 하지만 영성살이 에서 하는 수련은 노력을 집중하여 하느님께서 머무실 곳과 시간을 만들어 그분께서 우리의 스승이 되시고 우리는 이끄시는대로 자유롭게 따를 수 있게 하는 겁니다. 따라서 이 수련은 하느님께 활짝 열린 시간과 공간을 유지할 울타리를 만드는 겁니다. 고독에도 수련이 필요하며 참례하거나 남들을 보살피는 데도 수련을 해야 합니다. 이 모든 것들이 하느님께서 자비로이 현존하심을 느끼고 따를 수 있는 머무실 곳과 시간을 따로 마련하라고 우리에게 재촉합니다. Creating Space for God FEBRUARY 27 Discipline is the other side of discipleship. Discipleship without discipline is like waiting to run in the marathon without ever practicing. Discipline without discipleship is like always practicing for the marathon but never participating. It is important, however, to realize that discipline in the spiritual life is not the same as discipline in sports. Discipline in sports is the concentrated effort to master the body so that it can obey the mind better. Discipline in the spiritual life is the concentrated effort to create the space and time where God can become our master and where we can respond freely to God’s guidance. Thus, discipline is the creation of boundaries that keep time and space open for God. Solitude requires discipline, worship requires discipline, caring for others requires discipline. They all ask us to set apart a time and a place where God’s gracious presence can be acknowledged and responded to.   † 성부와 성자와 성령의 이름으로 아멘.
