헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오 ! 그리고 늘 ! 3월 7일 <부모된 이의 위대한 선물> The Great Gift of Parenthood 아이들은 부모에게는 손님입니다.  부모가 만든 자리에 들어와 15년, 20년, 25년 한동안 머물다가 다시 떠나서 제 자리를 만드는 겁니다. 부모가 “우리 아들”이며 “우리 딸”이라고 말은 하지만 그렇다고 아이들을 소유하는 건  아닙니다. 여러 면에서 아이들은 길손입니다. 부모는 아이들의 속알을 알고, 장점과 약점을 찾아내며, 어른이 되도록 이끌어주어 제 스스로 결정을 내릴 수 있게 해야 합니다. 부모가 아이들에게 줄 수 있는 가장 큰 선물은 바로 한사람 한사람을 사랑하는 겁니다. 그 사랑을 통해 부모는 평온한 자리를 만들어 아이들이 제 자신을 믿도록 키우고 또 자유롭게 마음껏 제 나름대로 살아가도록 힘을 북돋아 주는 겁니다. The Great Gift of Parenthood MARCH 7 Children are their parents’ guests. They come into the space that has been created for them, stay for a while – fifteen, twenty, or twenty-five years – and leave again to create their own space. Although parents speak about “our son” and “our daughter,” their children are not their property. In many ways children are strangers. Parents have to come to know them, discover their strengths and their weaknesses, and guide them to maturity, allowing them to make their own decisions. The greatest gift parents can give their children is their love for each other. Through that love they create an anxiety-free place for their children to grow, encouraging them to develop confidence in themselves and find the freedom to choose their own ways in life.   † 성부와 성자와 성령의 이름으로 아멘.
