헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 4월 11일 성주간 월요일 <권위와 순명이라는 것> Authority and Obedience 권위와 순명은 몇몇 사람이 모든 권위를 독차지하고 나머지 사람들은 무조건 순명한다는 식으로 결코 나뉠 수는 없는 겁니다. 그렇게 나누면 한쪽은 권위주의적인 행동을 하고 다른 한쪽은 이용만 당하는 호구같은 행동을 하게 됩니다.  그러면 권위는 물론 순명도 그 뜻이 왜곡되는 겁니다. 큰 권위를 지닌 이도 자신이 순명할 이가 아무도 없다면 영성의 큰 위험에 빠진 겁니다. 마찬가지로 아무리 순명을 잘하는 이라도 누군가에게 권위가 없다면 똑같은 위험에 빠진 겁니다. 예수님께서는 큰 권위로 말씀하셨지만 그분의 온 생애는 하느님 아버지께 대한 완전한 순명이셨습니다. 아버지께 “제가 원하는 대로 하지 마시고 아버지께서 원하시는 대로 하십시오”(마태26,39)라고 말씀하신 예수님께서는 하늘과 땅의 모든 권한을 받으셨습니다.(마태28.18 참조). 우리는 자신에게 물어야 합니다. 순명하면서 권위를 부리며 사는건가 ? 그리고 권위를 지니고 순명하며 사는건가 ? "그러므로 여러분은 먹든지 마시든지, 그리고 무슨 일을 하든지 모든 것을 하느님의 영광을 위하여 하십시오. 유다인에게도 그리스인에게도 하느님의 교회에도 방해를 놓는 자가 되지 마십시오. 무슨 일을 하든 모든 사람을 기쁘게 하려고 애쓰는 나처럼 하십시오. 나는 많은 사람이 구원을 받을 수 있도록, 내가 아니라 그들에게 유익한 것을 찾습니다. 내가 그리스도를 본받는 것처럼 여러분도 나를 본받는 사람이 되십시오. (1코린10,31-11,1) Authority and Obedience APRIL 11 Authority and obedience can never be divided, with some people having all the authority while others only have to obey. This separation causes authoritarian behaviour on the one side and doormat behaviour on the other. It perverts authority as well as obedience. A person with great authority who has nobody to be obedient to is in great spiritual danger. A very obedient person who has no authority over anyone is equally in danger. Jesus spoke with great authority, but his whole life was complete obedience to his Father, and Jesus, who said to his Father, “Let it be as you, not I, would have it” (Matthew 26:39), has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (see Matthew 28:18). Let us ask ourselves: Do we live our authority in obedience and do we live our obedience with authority? "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God --- even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.
