헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 4월 15일 [(홍) 주님 수난 성금요일] <영성의 것들을 영성으로 읽는다는 것> Reading Spiritually About Spiritual Things 책을 읽는 건 종종 정보를 모으고 새롭게 통찰하는 힘을 얻으며 새로운 분야를 깨치는 걸 뜻합니다. 책을 읽으면 학위나 수료증 그리고 자격증들을 받을 수도 있는 겁니다.  하지만 책을 영성으로 읽는 건 이와는 다른 겁니다. 영성에 관한 걸 읽을 뿐만 아니라 영성의 방법으로도 읽는 걸 뜻하는 겁니다. 그러려면 글자를 그냥 읽고 깨치는 게 아니라 글자가 우리를 읽고 깨우쳐 준다는 적극적인 자세가 필요합니다. 그저 지식이나 얻으려고 성경이나 영성에 관한 책을 읽는 건 영성으로 살아가는 데 아무 도움도 되지 않는 겁니다. 자칫 참된 영성으로 사는 사람이 되는 게 아니라 영성의 것들을 많이 아는 사람이 될 수 있는 겁니다. 영성의 것들을 영성으로 읽으면서 하느님의 목소리에 마음이 열리게 되는 겁니다.  해서 때때로는 읽고 있는 책을 기꺼이 내려 놓고 그냥 하느님께서 글자를 통해 하시는 말씀에 귀를 기울여야 하는 겁니다. "필리포스는 일어나 길을 가다가 에티오피아 사람 하나를 만났다. 그는 에티오피아 여왕 칸다케의 내시로서, 그 여왕의 모든 재정을 관리하는 고관이었다. 그는 하느님께 경배하러 예루살렘에 왔다가 돌아가면서, 자기 수레에 앉아 이사야 예언서를 읽고 있었다. 그때에 성령께서 필리포스에게, “가서 저 수레에 바싹 다가서라.” 하고 이르셨다. 필리포스가 달려가 그 사람이 이사야 예언서를 읽는 것을 듣고서, “지금 읽으시는 것을 알아듣습니까?” 하고 물었다. 그러자 그는 “누가 나를 이끌어 주지 않으면 내가 어떻게 알아들을 수 있겠습니까?” 하고서, 필리포스에게 올라와 자기 곁에 앉으라고 청하였다.---- 내시가 필리포스에게 물었다. “청컨대 대답해 주십시오. 이것은 예언자가 누구를 두고 하는 말입니까? 자기 자신입니까, 아니면 다른 사람입니까?” 필리포스는 입을 열어 이 성경 말씀에서 시작하여 예수님에 관한 복음을 그에게 전하였다. (사도8,27-31,34-35) Reading Spiritually About Spiritual Things APRIL 15 Reading often means gathering information, acquiring new insight and knowledge, and mastering a new field. It can lead us to degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Spiritual reading, however, is different. It means not simply reading about spiritual things but also reading about spiritual things in a spiritual way. That requires a willingness not just to read but to be read, not just to master but to be mastered by words. As long as we read the Bible or a spiritual book simply to acquire knowledge, our reading does not help us in our spiritual lives. We can become very knowledgeable about spiritual matters without becoming truly spiritual people. As we read spiritually about spiritual things, we open our hearts to God’s voice. Sometimes we must be willing to put down the book we are reading and just listen to what God is saying to us through its words. So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it." Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked. "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?" Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. - Acts 8: 27-31; 34-35   † 성부와 성자와 성령의 이름으로 아멘.
