헨리 나웬 신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 4월 25일 (성 마르코 복음 사가 축일) <우리가 던지는 질문의 해답이라는 것> The Answer to Our Questions 우리는 많은 시간과 힘을 써가며 질문을 던집니다. 그럴만한 가치가 있는 걸까요? 어째서 우리가 질문하는건지 스스로 물어 보는 건 늘 좋은 겁니다. 쓸모있는 정보를 얻고 싶은 건가요? 남들이 틀렸다는 걸 보여주고 싶은 건가요? 지식을 통달하고 싶은 건가요? 지혜를 키워가길 바라는 건가요? 거룩해지는(聖性) 길을 찾고싶은 건가요? 이런 질문들을 깊이 헤아리고 나서 질문을 던진다면 시간과 힘을 적게 써도 된다는 걸 깨닫게 될 겁니다. 어쩌면 우리가 이미 정보를 알고 있는지도 모르는 겁니다. 남들이 틀렸다는 걸 보여줄 필요도 없을 겁니다. 마음 속에서 들려오는 소리를 주의깊게 듣는다면 많은 질문에 대한 해답을 이미 가지고 있음을 알게 될 겁니다. "그때에 거센 돌풍이 일어 물결이 배 안으로 들이쳐서, 물이 배에 거의 가득 차게 되었다. 그런데도 예수님께서는 고물에서 베개를 베고 주무시고 계셨다. 제자들이 예수님을 깨우며, “스승님, 저희가 죽게 되었는데도 걱정되지 않으십니까?” 하고 말하였다. 그러자 예수님께서 깨어나시어 바람을 꾸짖으시고 호수더러, “잠잠해져라. 조용히 하여라!” 하시니 바람이 멎고 아주 고요해졌다. 예수님께서는 그들에게, “왜 겁을 내느냐? 아직도 믿음이 없느냐?” 하고 말씀하셨다."(마르4,37-40) The Answer to Our Questions APRIL 25 We spend a lot of time and energy raising questions. Is it worth it? It is always good to ask ourselves why we raise a question. Do we want to get useful information? Do we want to show that someone else is wrong? Do we want to conquer knowledge? Do we want to grow in wisdom? Do we want to find a way to sanctity? When we ponder these questions before asking our questions, we may discover that we need less time and energy for our questions. Perhaps we already have the information. Perhaps we don’t need to show that someone is wrong. For many questions we may learn that we already have the answers, at least if we listen carefully to our own hearts. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, "Don't you care if we drown?" He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to them, "Why are you so afraid?
