헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 5월 14일 <善終을 기도드린다는 것> Praying to Die Well 이런 말을 하는 사람들이 많습니다. “나는 죽는 건 두렵지 않지만 죽어가는 것은 두려워요” 지극히 당연한 말입니다. 죽어가는 것은 종종 병을 앓고 고통을 겪으며 남들에게 의존하고 외로움에 시달리기 때문입니다. 죽어가는 걸 두려워하는 건 전혀 부끄러운 일이 아닙니다. 사람이라면 누구나  겪는 두려움입니다. 예수님께서도 이 두려움을 겪으셨습니다. 그분은 고뇌에 싸여 “땀이 핏방울처럼 되어 땅에 떨어졌” (루카22,44)습니다. 그러면 죽어가는 걸 두려워하는 마음을 어떻게 다루어야 할까요? 예수님께서 그러하셨듯이 기도를 드려야만 새삶으로 들어서는 그 놀라운 통로를 지나갈 수 있는 특별한 힘을 얻게 될 겁니다. 그러면 하느님께서 예수님께 천사를 보내신 것처럼 우리에게도 천사를 보내주시어 위로하심을 믿을 수 있게 되는 겁니다. "예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. “이제는 너희가 믿느냐? 그러나 너희가 나를 혼자 버려두고 저마다 제 갈 곳으로 흩어질 때가 온다. 아니, 이미 왔다. 그러나 나는 혼자가 아니다. 아버지께서 나와 함께 계시다. 예수님께서는 이렇게 이르시고 나서 하늘을 향하여 눈을 들어 말씀하셨다. “아버지, 때가 왔습니다. 아들이 아버지를 영광스럽게 하도록 아버지의 아들을 영광스럽게 해 주십시오."(요한 16,31-32; 17,1) Praying to Die Well MAY 14 Many people say, “I am not afraid of death, but I am afraid of dying.” This is quite understandable, since dying often means illness, pain, dependency, and loneliness. The fear of dying is nothing to be ashamed of. It is the most human of all human fears. Jesus himself entered into that fear. In his anguish “sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood” (Luke 22:44). How must we deal with our fear of dying? Like Jesus we must pray that we may receive special strength to make the great passage to new life. Then we can trust that God will send us an angel to comfort us, as he sent an angel to Jesus. "You believe at last!" Jesus answered. "But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to their own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me." After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you." - John 16: 31-32; 17:1 (NIV)   † 성부와 성자와 성령의 이름으로 아멘.
