헨리 나웬  신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오! 그리고 늘! 10월 17일 [안티오키아의 성 이냐시오 주교 순교자 기념일] <흠 없고도 얼룩 진 교회라는 것> The Church, Spotless and Tainted 교회는 거룩하면서 죄스러우며 한 점 흠이 없으면서 얼룩이 묻어 있습니다.  교회는 그리스도의 신부입니다. 하여 그분은 교회를 물로 씻기시고 “티나 주름 같은 것 없이 아름다운 모습으로 --거룩하고 흠 없게 하시어”(에페 5,26-27) 당신 앞에 서게 하신 겁니다. 교회는 죄스럽고 갈피를 못잡아헤매며 몹시 괴로워하는 이들이 모인 곳이기도 합니다. 이이들은 온갖 욕망과 탐욕의 힘들로부터 끊임없이 유혹을 받으면서 또 늘 대립과 경쟁의 수렁에서 허덕이고 있는 겁니다. 우리가 교회를 하나의 몸이라고 말한다면 세례성사와 성체성사를 통하여 그리스도처럼 변화한 거룩하고 흠 없는 몸은 물론 그 지체인 모든 이들의 상처입은 몸도 뜻하는 겁니다.  이처럼 두 가지를 더불어 생각하고 말을 할 때 비로소 우리는 예수님의 참된 제자로 교회생활을 할 수 있는 겁니다. "나는 말하였다. “큰일났구나. 나는 이제 망했다. 나는 입술이 더러운 사람이다. 입술이 더러운 백성 가운데 살면서 임금이신 만군의 주님을 내 눈으로 뵙다니!” 그러자 사랍들 가운데 하나가 제단에서 타는 숯을 부집게로 집어 손에 들고 나에게 날아와, 그것을 내 입에 대고 말하였다. “자, 이것이 너의 입술에 닿았으니 너의 죄는 없어지고 너의 죄악은 사라졌다."(이사6,5-7) The Church, Spotless and Tainted OCTOBER 17 The Church is holy and sinful, spotless and tainted. The Church is the bride of Christ, who washed her in cleansing water and took her to himself “with no speck or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and faultless” (Ephesians 5:26-27). The Church too is a group of sinful, confused, anguished people constantly tempted by the powers of lust and greed and always entangled in rivalry and competition. When we say that the Church is a body, we refer not only to the holy and faultless body made Christ-like through baptism and Eucharist but also to the broken bodies of all the people who are its members. Only when we keep both these ways of thinking and speaking together can we live in the Church as true followers of Jesus. Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty!" Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.
