And when the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, 'Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?'" In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many that were blind he bestowed sight. ... "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. And blessed is he who takes no offense at me." (7:20-23) 

Meditation♥

Even the prospect of a space mission to Mars could not compare to the excitement generated by the miracles, signs, and wonders breaking out in Israel during the time of Jesus' public ministry! So much was happening that John the Baptist sent two of his disciples to Jesus to find out if this was it. How full of anticipation and excitement these two disciples must have felt as they sought out Jesus to see for themselves everything that he was doing!

In a similar way, Advent is a special time when we can heighten our own sense of excitement and anticipation of Jesus' coming again in glory. But beyond the hope of a future salvation, we can also become more excited over the promise of his coming into our hearts each and every time we approach him in prayer or at Mass.

Imagine how much fuller our experience of his gospel will be if, every time we came to Jesus, we asked questions like: What do you want to do in my life today, Jesus? How will you answer my prayers? What new insights will you grant me today? How will I experience your love, glory, or mercy this time? Questions like these may make us sound greedy, but only if we lose sense of how needy we are.

Today is as good as any day to look for this heightened sense of anticipation and excitement about your relationship with the Lord. Seek him eagerly today. Ask him to show you the hidden ways in which he is acting in your life and in the lives of those you love. Over and over again, the gospels tell us how pleased Jesus is when people approach him with a lively and expectant faith. Trust him. He is always good and merciful. Let him know how much you enjoy his company and the wonders he is working in you and around you. Don't be afraid to look for and expect more! Jesus is exceedingly generous, and he has an infinite store of grace and blessings set aside specifically for you!

Lord, 

I come to you

with joy and excitement today.

 How will you reveal your wonders

in my life today?

I surrender to you.

Come and do

whatever you want to do

to deepen my faith in you!

♥묵상

화성 우주비행 계획조차도 예수님의 공생활 동안 이스라엘에서 일어난 수많은 기적과 징표와 놀라운 일들이 불러일으킨 흥분에는 비교할 수 없을 것입니다! 참으로 수많은 놀라운 일이 일어나고 있었으므로 세례자 요한은 제자 두 사람을 예수님께 보내어 그분이 오시기로 되어 있는 분인지 알아오라고 하였습니다. 예수님께서 무슨 일을 하는지 직접 보려고 찾아간 두 제자는 얼마나 가슴 벅찬 기대와 흥분을 느꼈을까요!

같은 맥락에서, 대림 시기는 영광 중에 다시 오시는 예수님께 대한 기대와 흥분을 북돋아주는 때입니다. 그러나 우리는 미래의 구원에 대한 희망을 뛰어넘어, 기도와 미사 중에 주님께 다가갈 때마다 우리 마음 속에 오시겠다고 하신 주님의 약속에 가슴 설레입니다.

우리가 예수님께 나아갈 때마다 ‘주님, 오늘은 제 삶에서 무엇을 하기를 원하십니까? 저의 기도에 어떻게 응답해 주시렵니까? 오늘은 저에게 어떤 새로운 통찰력을 베풀어 주시겠습니까? 이번엔 제가 주님의 사랑과 영광과 자비를 어떻게 체험하게 될까요?’하고 묻는다면 주님의 복음을 얼마나 더 풍부히 체험하게 될지 상상해 보십시오.

오늘은 여느 날처럼 주님과의 관계에 있어 고조된 기대와 흥분감을 갖기에 좋은 날입니다. 오늘 주님을 간절히 찾으십시오. 당신의 삶 안에서 그리고 당신이 사랑하는 사람들의 삶 안에서 역사하고 계시는 주님의 감추어진 길을 보여주시라고 주님께 간청하십시오. 우리가 활기차고 기대에 찬 믿음으로 나아갈 때 예수님께서 이를 얼마나 기뻐하시는지 복음은 거듭거듭 말해주고 있습니다. 주님을 신뢰하십시오. 주님께서는 항상 좋으시고 자비하십니다. 주님의 동반을 그리고 당신과 당신 주위에서 이루시는 주님의 놀라운 일들을 당신이 얼마나 즐기는지 알려드리십시오. 청하고 더 많이 기대하기를 두려워 마십시오! 예수님께서는 넘치도록 너그러우신 분이시고 당신을 위해 무한한 은총과 축복을 창고에 비축해 두고 계십니다.
