Love one another. The call to love is at the heart of our faith. What could be a more simple or more effective way of evangelization? The close, loving relationships we form with our families and fellow Christians are meant to be the source of our ability to evangelize. No matter that such relationships are rare in the world today. No matter that they seem virtually impossible apart from God. The fact remains that peaceful, joyful, united lives are still capable of speaking volumes to the world about the power and love of God. Many of us think of evangelization as persuasive, clear words that inspire others about Jesus and his gospel. As accurate as this may be in theory, in many practical instances, we can have an even greater effect on people's faith through the witness of our loving actions than by our many words. Love has the power to melt hearts and convince minds far better than an abundance of eloquent doctrine, theology, or defenses of Christianity! Love in practical ways is the respect you show to people. Look for ordinary needs that you can meet. Taking dinner to someone who is sick or who just had a baby; shoveling snow for, or alongside, a neighbor; teaching a teenager how to build a bookshelf; taking time to visit with an elderly person. All of these are ways to begin evangelizing. As John wrote, we are to love not in word or speech, but in deed as well (1 John 3:18). Begin evangelizing today! Is there anyone in your family who has left the church or needs to be brought back to Christ? Be kind to them, and let the Lord do the work. If you are divided from that family member, ask the Lord how to build bridges, for love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8). Take small steps to build relationships at work or in your neighborhood with people who are searching for hope and meaning in their lives. As you do, believe that you will be giving them a dynamic witness, not just good feelings or happy thoughts. Remember Jesus' promise: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:35). Lord Jesus, give me a softer heart for those around me. Teach me to love as you have loved me that others would be drawn to you. |
서로 사랑하여라. 사랑으로 초대하는 것은 우리 신앙의 핵심입니다. 어떻게 해야 좀 더 단순하고 효과적으로 복음 전파를 할 수 있을까요? 우리가 가족이나 교우들과 다져가는 친근하고 사랑 넘치는 관계는 복음을 전파하는 힘의 원천입니다. 비록 오늘날 그러한 인간관계를 찾아보기 힘들다 해도 상관 없습니다. 하느님을 떠나서는 그러한 관계가 사실상 불가능하다 해도 상관없습니다. 그러나 평화롭고 즐겁고 화목한 삶이 하느님의 힘과 사랑을 세상에 증명하고도 남는다는 사실만은 여전합니다. 많은 이들이 복음 전파란 다른 사람들에게 예수님과 그의 복음에 대한 영감을 일으켜 주는 설득력 있고 명료한 설교라고 생각합니다. 이것이 이론상으로는 정확할지 모르지만, 많은 현실적인 경우에, 우리는 많은 말보다 사랑의 실천과 증거로써 사람들의 신앙에 더 큰 영향을 줄 수 있습니다. 사랑은 그 어떠한 웅변적 교리, 신학 또는 호교론보다 사람들의 마음을 녹여주고 설득시키는 힘을 가지고 있습니다! 사랑을 실천하는 방법은 사람들을 존중하는 것입니다. 당신이 할 수 있는 평범한 일거리를 찾아보십시오. 아픈 사람이나 방금 아기를 출산한 산모에게 저녁식사를 준비해 주는 일, 이웃집 대문 앞에 쌓여있는 눈을 치우는 일, 청소년들에게 책꽂이 만드는 법을 가르쳐 주는 일, 시간을 내어 노인들을 방문하는 일 등의 평범한 일들이 복음 전파를 시작하는 길입니다. 사도 요한이 썼듯이, 우리는 말과 혀로 사랑하지 말고 행동으로 사랑해야 합니다(1요한 3,18). 바로 오늘 복음전파를 시작하십시오! 가족들 가운데 교회를 떠났거나 그리스도께로 데리고 와야 할 사람이 있습니까? 그들에게 친절하게 대하십시오. 그리고 주님께서 그들 안에서 일하시도록 도와드리십시오. 그 사람과 당신 사이에 분열이 생겼다면 어떻게 다리를 놓아야 하는지 주님께 여쭈어 보십시오. 사랑은 많은 죄를 덮어주기 때문입니다(1베드 4,8). 직장이나 동네에서 인생의 의미와 희망을 찾는 사람들과 조금씩 관계를 쌓아 가십시오. 그렇게 할 때 이웃들에게 좋은 기분이나 행복한 마음을 심어줄 뿐 아니라 예수님을 힘있게 증언하는 것임을 믿으십시오. 예수님의 말씀을 기억하십시오. “너희가 서로 사랑하면, 모든 사람들이 그것을 보고 너희가 내 제자라는 것을 알게 될 것이다(요한 13,35).” “주 예수님, 제가 이웃을 좀 더 부드러운 마음으로 대할 수 있게 해주십시오. 주님께서 저를 사랑하신 대로 저도 사랑하게 가르쳐주시어 형제들을 당신께 인도하게 해 주십시오.” |
