예레미야 예언자가 네리야의 아들 바룩에게 한 말이다. 바룩은 유다 임금 요시야의 아들 여호야킴 제사년에 예레미야의 입에서 직접 이 말씀을 받아 책에 적었다. |

This is the message that the prophet Jeremiah gave to Baruch, son of Neriah, when he wrote in a book the prophecies that Jeremiah dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah: |

“주 이스라엘의 하느님께서 너 바룩에게 이렇게 말씀하신다. |

Thus says the LORD, God of Israel, to you, Baruch, |

'너는, '불행하여라, 이 내 신세! 주님께서 내 고통에 슬픔을 더해 주시니, 나는 탄식으로 기진하고 안식을 찾을 수 없구나.' 하고 말한다.' |

because you said, "Alas! the LORD adds grief to my pain; I am weary from groaning, and can find no rest": |

─ 너는 바룩에게 이렇게 말해야 한다. ─ 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ‘나는 내가 세운 것을 부수기도 하고 내가 심은 것을 뽑기도 하는데, 이 땅의 모든 일이 바로 그렇다. |

say this to him, says the LORD: What I have built, I am tearing down; what I have planted, I am uprooting: even the whole land. |

너는 자신을 위하여 무슨 위대한 일들을 찾고 있는데, 그런 일들을 더 이상 찾지 마라. 내가 정녕 모든 사람에게 재앙을 내리겠다. 주님의 말씀이다. 그러나 나는, 네가 어디를 가든 너의 목숨을 구해 주겠다.’” |

And do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not! I am bringing evil on all mankind, says the LORD, but your life I will leave you as booty, wherever you may go. |
