에프라임은 거짓말로 나를 에워싸고 이스라엘 집안은 속임수로 나를 에워쌌다. 그러나 유다는 여전히 하느님과 함께 걸으며 ‘거룩한 이’에게 성실하다. |

Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, the house of Israel, with deceit; Judah is still rebellious against God, against the Holy One, who is faithful. |

에프라임은 바람을 먹고 온종일 동풍을 쫓아다니며 거짓과 폭력을 늘려 간다. 그들은 아시리아와 계약을 맺고 이집트로 기름을 날라 간다. |

Ephraim chases the wind, ever pursuing the gale. His lies and falsehoods are many: he comes to terms with Assyria, and carries oil to Egypt. |
| 야곱의 자손들아, 회개하여라 |

| 3 |
주님께서 유다를 재판하시어 야곱을 그 걸어온 길에 따라 벌하시고 그 행실에 따라 갚으시리라. |

The LORD has a grievance against Israel: he shall punish Jacob for his conduct, for his deeds he shall repay him. |

그는 모태에서 제 형을 속이고 어른이 되어서는 하느님과 겨루었다. |

In the womb he supplanted his brother, and as a man he contended with God; |
| 5 |
그는 천사와 겨루어 이기자 울면서 그에게 호의를 간청하였다. 그는 베텔에서 하느님을 만났고 하느님께서는 거기에서 그와 말씀하셨다. |

He contended with the angel and triumphed, entreating him with tears. At Bethel he met God and there he spoke with him: |

주님은 만군의 하느님 그 이름 주님이시다! |

The LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is his name! |
| 7 |
그러니 너는 네 하느님께 돌아와 신의와 공정을 지키고 네 하느님께 늘 희망을 두어라. |
7 |
You shall return by the help of your God, if you remain loyal and do right and always hope in your God. |

| 8 |
속임수 저울을 손에 든 장사꾼 속이기를 좋아하는 자 |
8 |
A merchant who holds a false balance, who loves to defraud! |
| 9 |
에프라임은 말한다. “나는 정말 부자가 되었다. 한재산 얻었다. 내가 벌어들인 그 모든 것에서 죄가 되는 잘못을 아무도 찾아내지 못할 것이다.” |

Though Ephraim says, "How rich I have become; I have made a fortune!" All his gain shall not suffice him for the guilt of his sin. |

| 10 |
나는 이집트 땅에서부터 주 너의 하느님이다. 축일 때처럼 나는 다시 너를 천막에서 살게 하리라. |
10 |
I am the LORD, your God, since the land of Egypt; I will again have you live in tents, as in that appointed time. |
| 11 |
나는 예언자들에게 말하리라. 바로 내가 환시를 많이 보여 주고 예언자들을 통하여 비유로 말하리라. |
11 |
I granted many visions and spoke to the prophets, through whom I set forth examples. |
| 이스라엘의 죄와 그 벌 |

| 12 |
길앗에 불의가 자리 잡고 있으니 그들은 진정 헛것이 되고 말리라. 그들이 길갈에서 황소들을 잡아 바치니 그들의 제단도 밭고랑의 돌무더기처럼 되리라. |
12 |
In Gilead is falsehood, they have come to nought, in Gilgal they sacrifice to bullocks; Their altars are like heaps of stones in the furrows of the field. |
| 13 |
야곱은 아람 땅으로 달아났다. 이스라엘은 아내를 얻으려고 종살이하고 또 아내를 얻으려고 양 떼를 돌보았다. |

When Jacob fled to the land of Aram, he served for a wife; for a wife Israel tended sheep. |
| 14 |
주님은 예언자를 통하여 이스라엘을 이집트에서 데리고 올라오고 이스라엘은 그 예언자를 통하여 보호를 받았다. |
14 |
By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet they were protected. |
| 15 |
그러나 에프라임이 주님의 화를 크게 돋우었으니 주님은 그가 흘린 남의 피를 그 위에 쏟고 그가 준 치욕을 그에게 되돌리리라. |

Ephraim has exasperated his lord; therefore he shall cast his blood-guilt upon him and repay him for his outrage. |
